{"id":107004,"date":"2021-06-10T21:14:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T01:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=107004"},"modified":"2021-06-10T21:17:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T01:17:21","slug":"1876-worlds-fair-weekend-takes-over-the-national-museum-of-industrial-history-this-saturday-and-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=107004","title":{"rendered":"1876 World\u2019s Fair Weekend takes over the National Museum of Industrial History this Saturday and Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BETHLEHEM, Pa. &#8211; Take a step into our region\u2019s past at the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) on Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th as they host 1876 World\u2019s Fair Weekend and celebration of engineering, industry, and culture that\u00a0\u00a0pays tribute to the first World\u2019s Fair hosted in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors can watch as a 115-ton steam engine comes to life, see a working Bethlehem Steel locomotive, and hear the melodies of the Antebellum Marine Band. \u2018President Grant\u2019 played by a professional reenactor will recreate the historic speech opening the Centennial International Exhibition and engineers of all ages can try their hand at running an antique printing press.<\/p>\n<p>145 years ago, in 1876, Philadelphia hosted the Centennial International Exposition, considered the country\u2019s first World Fair. Visitors from 37 countries trekked to the site, located on a sprawling 450 acre campus, with nearly 10 million visitors taking in the sights, sounds, and smells across the span of six months.<\/p>\n<p>The Exposition\u2019s Machinery Hall, the second largest building on the grounds, plays an important role in the country\u2019s industrial history and in the halls of NMIH. Everything from massive steam engines to intricate woodworking machinery were on display, fully introducing America\u2019s industrial might on the world\u2019s stage for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>All activities are included in the museum\u2019s regular admission. Guests are required to wear\u00a0\u00a0masks inside the museum.
