\u00a0June 16<\/strong> \u2013 State Rep. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, has been selected to serve as chairwoman of the Northeast Democratic Delegation of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the remainder of 2021-22 legislative term.<\/p>\n

Madden took over the chair position when delegation chairman Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, was sworn in as a state senator last week.<\/p>\n

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh was appointed to serve the remainder of Madden\u2019s unexpired term as vice-chairwoman.<\/p>\n

Both Madden and McNeill were appointed by the delegation\u2019s 14-member board.<\/p>\n

Madden, who has now gained seniority as chairwoman, said she is dedicated to move the delegation forward on many issues important to the Northeast.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Northeast Delegation will be tackling important issues that matter to everyone, such as equity in education, social programs, senior services, diversity, gun reform, equal pay, voting rights, health care and workplace safety regulations,\u201d Madden said. \u201cWe must continue to work together on both sides of the aisle and mend our divisions so we can provide unified, effective change for the people of Pennsylvania.\u201d<\/p>\n

McNeill said she will be at the forefront of debates on issues that affect her constituency and the delegation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an honor that my colleagues have selected and entrusted me with the responsibilities of vice-chairwoman for the Northeastern Delegation,\u201d McNeill said. \u201cI\u2019m eager to work with Chairwoman Madden to ensure that, as a delegation, our individual goals become collective, representing the entire region and better enabling us to meet the ever-changing needs of the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recent research suggests this may be the first time the House Democratic Northeast Delegation has women at the helm in positions as both chair and vice chair.<\/p>\n

The Northeast Delegation includes members who represent Berks, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe and Northampton counties.<\/p>\n
