{"id":111040,"date":"2022-02-08T23:35:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T04:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111040"},"modified":"2022-02-08T23:35:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T04:35:55","slug":"the-allentown-rescue-missions-clean-team-workforce-employee-of-the-month-angelo-v","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111040","title":{"rendered":"The Allentown Rescue Mission\u2019s Clean Team Workforce Employee of the Month Angelo V."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Allentown Rescue Mission congratulates its Clean Team Workforce Employee of the Month for January, Angelo V.<\/p>\n<p>Angelo grew up feeling inferior to his sister.\u00a0 School came easier to her and he believed his parents and teachers focused more on her.\u00a0 As a result, Angelo struggled with confidence issues and dropped out of high school to work.<\/p>\n<p>Angelo worked various jobs after dropping out of school.\u00a0 Then, at 20 years old, his life dramatically changed with the birth of his daughter.\u00a0 \u00a0And although he loved his daughter deeply, Angelo wasn\u2019t prepared to be a father.\u00a0 His relationship with his girlfriend fell apart and she moved to Texas with their three-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p>After losing his daughter, Angelo spiraled into a deep depression that lasted many years.\u00a0 \u201cI didn\u2019t want to work.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to do anything\u201d, remembers Angelo.<\/p>\n<p>When his next relationship failed, Angelo gravitated toward the wrong people.\u00a0 He ended up in and out of jail.\u00a0 But Angelo knew deep down that he wanted to change.\u00a0 While volunteering at a church, he asked the pastor for help.\u00a0 The pastor sent Angelo to the Allentown Rescue Mission.<\/p>\n<p>He enrolled in the Transformation Program, graduated, and is currently working for the Clean Team Workforce as a cook for the Allentown Rescue Mission.\u00a0 Angelo is very happy with his work.\u00a0 He picks up extra shifts on the weekends and during the week when they are available. He also trains other men to help in the kitchen and takes great pride in his work.<\/p>\n<p>Angelo has been saving money and hopes to secure an apartment in the near future.\u00a0 In the meantime, he\u2019s focusing on performing his job to the best of his ability and working on becoming a better person.\u00a0 He hopes to reconnect with his daughter one day.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Angelo, for showing others what hard work looks like and maintaining a positive attitude.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Allentown Rescue Mission, a 501c3, 123 bed non-profit homeless shelter has been providing shelter for homeless men since 1900. In addition to emergency shelter services (365 days a year), the Allentown Rescue Mission offers a residential life skills program, and transitional employment on the Clean Team Workforce that\u2019s available for hire to the community. The Clean Team Workforce pays the men above PA state minimum wage\u2013 helping them save a nest egg to transition back into the community.
