Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, will host an unclaimed property search event on Thursday, March 17 at her district office to aid residents of the 133<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0District in claiming what is rightfully theirs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne in 10 Pennsylvania residents are owed unclaimed property from the state treasury,\u201d said McNeill. \u201cThis could be uncashed checks, lost bonds, stocks, refunds, closed bank accounts and more. The\u00a0Pennsylvania Treasurer&#8217;s Office is holding more than $4 billion in unclaimed property, and a \u2018pot of gold\u2019 could be waiting for folks right here in Lehigh County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to McNeill, unclaimed property may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Closed bank accounts.<\/li>\n<li>Uncashed checks, including paychecks.<\/li>\n<li>Lost stocks and bonds.<\/li>\n<li>Contents of safe deposit boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Proceeds from the demutualization of insurance companies.<\/li>\n<li>Expired gift cards\/gift certificates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWhat better way to mark St. Patrick\u2019s Day then to hold an event in my district office to aid residents in a search of the state\u2019s database,\u201d McNeill said. \u201cPerhaps the \u2018luck of the Irish\u2019 will strike!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No appointments are needed for the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can also call 610-266-1273 and a member of McNeill\u2019s staff will help complete the search over the phone.<\/p>\n<p>McNeill cautions residents to ignore any solicitations that offer to conduct searches of the database for a fee, as her office can help for free.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who wants to find out if they have unclaimed property, can search their name in the Unclaimed Property database\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patreasury.gov\/Unclaimed\/Search.html\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.patreasury.gov\/Unclaimed\/Search.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1647143178755000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2-46RpuSRRcJf6ep6v5d9J\">www.patreasury.gov\/Unclaimed\/Search.html<\/a>, call 1-800-222-2046, or\u00a0contact McNeill\u2019s office at 610-266-1273.
