Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, has introduced legislation aimed at reducing the amount of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning incidents at child care facilities across the commonwealth. Currently, there are no statewide carbon monoxide alarm requirements in place, which McNeill calls worrisome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA child complaining of a headache wouldn\u2019t know it was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, and in many instances, a caregiver might not jump to that conclusion,\u201d McNeill said. \u201cThis legislation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/CFDOCS\/Legis\/PN\/Public\/btCheck.cfm?txtType=PDF&amp;sessYr=2021&amp;sessInd=0&amp;billBody=H&amp;billTyp=B&amp;billNbr=2502&amp;pn=2962\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/CFDOCS\/Legis\/PN\/Public\/btCheck.cfm?txtType%3DPDF%26sessYr%3D2021%26sessInd%3D0%26billBody%3DH%26billTyp%3DB%26billNbr%3D2502%26pn%3D2962&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1649911023209000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0olMYnCoic_uIyORKGZ3qp\">H.B. 2505<\/a>, is a companion bill to Senate Bill 129. It would require buildings that house child care facilities that have possible sources of carbon monoxide to have one or more carbon monoxide alarms, depending on the size of the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to McNeill, hundreds of Americans die each year from carbon monoxide poisoning, with an estimated 50,000 sent to the emergency room from accidental exposure annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarbon monoxide has no smell, no color,\u201d McNeill said. \u201cMany people may experience symptoms of headaches, dizziness and nausea, while completely unaware they have a carbon monoxide leak, given its covert nature.
