{"id":111963,"date":"2022-04-27T23:27:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T03:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111963"},"modified":"2022-04-27T23:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T03:27:33","slug":"lehigh-county-city-of-allentown-and-partners-remind-residents-to-vote-in-upcoming-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111963","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh County, City of Allentown, and Partners Remind Residents to Vote in Upcoming Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lehigh County joins together with the City of Allentown, AARP Pennsylvania, League of Women Voters, and Democracy for All Penn Future to encourage residents to vote in the upcoming May 17 primary election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, and every day, is the perfect opportunity to remind our fellow residents that their vote counts,\u201d said Lehigh County Executive Phil Armstrong. \u201cWe all have causes that matter to us, and no matter what political affiliation you are, this is the time to put your beliefs into action. I encourage all residents to not only vote but to help spread the word and motivate others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegistering is an important first step, but it\u2019s not enough,\u201d said Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk. \u201cYou need to start now to make a plan to vote to ensure that no matter what, you\u2019ll be casting your ballot on May 17.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the 2020 election, Pennsylvania voters have been on a rollercoaster ride, often receiving conflicting information about voting requirements,\u201d said Kellie VonStein, AARP Pennsylvania Associate Director of Outreach and Advocacy, Lehigh Valley. <strong>\u201c<\/strong>AARP Pennsylvania is fighting to make sure voters know how, when, and where to vote in their communities in order to make their vote count.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe League of Women Voters of Lehigh County is committed to educating voters to understand the power of the vote.\u201d said Barbara Connolly, Director of Community Outreach of the League of Women Voters. \u201cVoting is your superpower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe focus on People of Color and Marginalized communities who are often left out of the voting process,\u201d said Emily Gale, the Director of Civic Engagement for Democracy for All Penn Future. \u201cWe do this by integrated voter engagement, registering people to vote, educating about our voting rights. Currently DFA-PF is educating the community about voting by mail and the fact that you can still apply to vote by mail and receive a mail in ballot. Another choice for a person that cannot vote in person, a choice and a voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lehigh County is currently recruiting poll workers and interpreters. People can apply online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lehighcounty.org\/Departments\/Voter-Registration\/Poll-Worker\">https:\/\/www.lehighcounty.org\/Departments\/Voter-Registration\/Poll-Worker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline to register to vote is May 2.
