{"id":111995,"date":"2022-04-30T10:24:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T14:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111995"},"modified":"2022-04-30T10:24:36","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T14:24:36","slug":"policy-hearing-opioids-and-treatment-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=111995","title":{"rendered":"Policy Hearing: Opioids and Treatment Options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ALLENTOWN, April 29 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The opioid crisis is a massive public health and public safety challenge in Pennsylvania, so lawmakers will convene in Allentown for a hearing about the evolving epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing, \u201cThe Evolving Epidemic: Opioids and Treatment Options\u201d will be hosted by PA House Democratic Policy Committee Chair Ryan Bizzarro and state Rep. Mike Schlossberg and will take place at\u00a0<strong>1 p.m. on Monday, May 2 at the Cetronia Ambulance Corps, 4300 Broadway in Allentown.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The opioid overdose death count for 2021 was 4,300 and that number is still rising as more data comes in. During the hearing, lawmakers will receive testimony from people impacted by the opioid epidemic, health experts, addiction management specialists and law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Testifiers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nancy Knoebel, founder, Danny\u2019s Ride<\/li>\n<li>Rhonda Miller, volunteer ambassador, Shatterproof<\/li>\n<li>David Synnamon, injury prevention manager, Allentown Health Bureau<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Abby Letcher, medical director for primary care addiction medicine, Lehigh Valley Health Network<\/li>\n<li>Amie Allanson-Dundon, clinical therapy services, psychotherapist, St. Lukes University Health Network<\/li>\n<li>Ellen DiDomenico, deputy secretary, PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs<\/li>\n<li>Hon.
