The exhibit will run from May through the summer of 2022.

The exhibit opening will feature guest speakers involved in special events throughout the museum’s 60 years of existence. Among those events is the 1976 “Liberty Bell Trek,” in which living historians (re-enactors) drove a horse-drawn wagon with a fiberglass representation of the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia to Zion’s Church in Allentown.

The exhibit will tell the story of the oral traditions surrounding the Liberty Bell coming to Zion’s church to evade the British Army during the Revolutionary War. It will show how those stories of Zion’s church’s significant part in the American Revolution lived in the hearts of Allentown and Lehigh Valley Residents. The stories drove several community members to take the initiative and found the Liberty Bell Shrine.

Mr. Phillips Armstrong, Lehigh County Executive and Mrs. Radell Ludwig, daughter of Dr. Morgan Person, who led the initiative to found the Liberty Bell Shrine, will be among the featured speakers. Mrs. Ludwig and others will share their experiences spanning the museum’s sixty years of existence.

“I am very excited about our upcoming Museum anniversary exhibit. We have uncovered some historical treasures in the museum’s archives. Looking at the old photos and newspaper articles, it’s amazing to see how much the Museum and Allentown have changed in the past 60 years, and we can’t wait to share our finds with everyone,” said Stephanie S. Burke, Liberty Bell Museum Manager.

This exhibit opening is part of an overarching celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the Museum. The anniversary celebration will culminate with a larger program on September 25th, 2022.

This event is free as it coincides with Downtown Allentown’s monthly 3rd Thursday. Under normal circumstances, admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children aged 5-17. There is no admission charge for children 4 and under.

The Liberty Bell Museum is located at historic Zion’s Church at 622 W.
