{"id":112689,"date":"2022-06-18T07:05:46","date_gmt":"2022-06-18T11:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=112689"},"modified":"2022-06-18T08:41:17","modified_gmt":"2022-06-18T12:41:17","slug":"bradbury-sullivan-lgbt-community-center-launches-pride-guide-to-public-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=112689","title":{"rendered":"Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center Launches Pride Guide to Public Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>The guide covers critical information about monkeypox, syphilis, and COVID-19.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ALLENTOWN, PA <\/strong>&#8211; In light of the recent monkeypox outbreak, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center has created a comprehensive public health guide that educates LGBTQ+ community members about monkeypox, syphilis, and COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.nationbuilder.com\/bradburysullivancenter\/pages\/123\/attachments\/original\/1655319963\/Health-Guide-2022_Monkeypox-Syphillis-COVID_trifold_digital.pdf\"><u>Pride Guide to Public Health<\/u><\/a> dispels myths about each virus, sharing critical information about the spread, signs and symptoms, and steps to take.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key takeaway from this guide is understanding the differences in how each of the diseases spread, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d said Chrystina Obleschuk, MPH, health equity programs manager at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. \u201cMonkeypox and COVID-19 have two very different disease pathways. Monkeypox is spread through direct contact with sores or bodily fluids of an infected individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the monkeypox outbreak has yet to reach the Lehigh Valley, the city of Allentown continues to experience a large-scale outbreak of syphilis.
