Hosted first in the 1980s, Heritage Fest is a celebration of the extensive heritage and history of the Whitehall area. The festival will take place on June 25th, 2022, from 1-5 PM on Mickley Road (between Gallagher and Lenhert Roads) and at the Grim Barn property on Lenhert Road.

“We are extremely excited to bring this event back to Whitehall Township,” said Michael Harakal, mayor of Whitehall Township. “Not only will this bring enjoyment to the community, it will allow us to highlight the improvements made to the Grist Mill and Peter Grim property and highlight the beautiful new greenways and pathways in our park areas where there will be great entertainment and activities for all ages.”

The event has been designed to support local businesses and vendors in a festive atmosphere, while highlighting the history of the area. Civil War and Revolutionary War Reenactments and Living History regiments will be present from the 153rd PA Volunteer Inf. and George Taylor House, respectively. The Whitehall Historical Preservation Society will offer tours of the Helfrich Springs Grist Mill and Peter Grim House, as well as provide demonstrations of colonial toys and other activities.

“The Whitehall Area Chamber is thrilled to be a part of the return of Heritage Fest,” said Kylie Adams-Weiss, Assistant Vice President of Affiliated Chambers for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We love partnering with our local municipalities and communities on events that not only highlight their individuality but that provide the opportunity to shed a light on all they have to offer. Whitehall is kind of a keystone in the Lehigh Valley in a lot of ways, connecting smaller municipalities to Allentown and throughways to Bethlehem and Easton; while our business community is expansive and thriving, the township has beautiful recreation areas that are deserving of recognition. This is a great way to show them off.”

Festivities will begin at 1 PM on Mickley Road (between Gallagher and Lenhert Roads) and will feature 50 plus food trucks, crafters, local businesses and nonprofit vendors. Live Music will be on the main stage from 1-5 PM with the Lou Franco Project Band, who brings a diverse mix of classic rock, blues and more. Wildlands Conservancy will provide demonstrations throughout the day at the Grim Barn (1111 Lenhert Road). Children’s activities, such as coloring and art contests, rock climbing walls, hayrides and face painting will also be there to be enjoyed, as well as representation from the Whitehall Fire and Police Departments.

The Whitehall Recreation department will also host a “Duckie Derby” in Jordan Creek and 50-50 to raise money for Township recreation. Duckies can be purchased in advance at any Township pool for $5 or day-of for $10. “This is a first for a Chamber event,” said Adams-Weiss, “but also going to be a super fun way to raise money for the township. Duckies will be purchased then released at 4 PM in Jordan Creek; it is certainly an aspect of this festival you don’t want to miss!”

Parking for the event will be available at both Kohls and Foreman Mills in their left-side (not main) parking lots; shuttle service will be provided regularly throughout the day to ensure festivalgoers can enter (and leave) the festival safely.

“We have been working hand-in-hand with Tony Cocca and the Township Staff to ensure this event will be great event for all who attend,” said Jessica O’Donnell, EVP of Affiliated Chambers. “After two and a half years of event planning in a pandemic, it is a relief to see a festival bring together so many different community groups and aspects of the Whitehall community. Between handmade craft items, historical demonstrations, kids’ activities and great food, there will certainly be a little bit of something for everyone!”

For more information, follow the event page with Whitehall Area Chamber at: www.facebook.com/events/943585082967211.

Please note: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.
