ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania _ Jimmy\u2019s Barbershop, a well-established fixture in Downtown Allentown, has moved to 822 N. 19th Street in the city\u2019s West End. The newly outfitted shop opened July 1.<\/p>\n
Owner Jimmy Moyer and his wife, Rose, purchased what had been property of the church next door for their barbershop and for Rose\u2019s Electrolysis business in September 2021. Rose, who owns Whitehall Electrolysis Center on Florida Avenue in Whitehall, moved her Electrolysis business to the newly converted property at the beginning of July as well.<\/p>\n
The church rectory had originally been built as a home. Driving by the rectory during the pandemic in 2021, Rose saw it was for sale and thought it would be ideal location for their established businesses if they could make some changes to it. It took nearly eight months for them to get the necessary approvals and complete the extensive renovations, Jimmy said.<\/p>\n
Jimmy Moyer has been a barber for 44 years. Born in Allentown, he went to California as a young man. He came back to Allentown at 21 and worked as a barber only to discover his biological father, George \u201cEskimo\u201d Joseph, was cutting hair nearby. At 83, Joseph still has a small barber business not far from Jimmy\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Jimmy has owned and operated 10 barbershops in Allentown over the years including ones on North St. Cloud and on Hamilton streets. Jimmy, 65, wants his newest location to be his \u201clast stop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The new Jimmy\u2019s Barbershop has three chairs and parking in the rear of the building. \u201cI am thinking of possibly putting in a fourth chair,\u201d Jimmy said. Rose is one of the barber\/stylists.<\/p>\n
The shop offers men\u2019s, women\u2019s and kids\u2019 haircuts as well as beard\/mustache trimming and old- fashioned hot towel and hot razor shaves.<\/p>\n
Rose has been in business for 39 years.<\/p>\n
The Moyers converted the second floor of the former rectory to offices for their businesses.<\/p>\n
The barbershop is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays from 8 to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.\u00a0 Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are preferred.<\/p>\n
The Electrolysis Center is by appointment.<\/p>\n
