Statement from Lamont McClure on funding for Wilson Borough\/School District<\/strong><\/p>\n

The County of Northampton takes its responsibilities to our 38 municipalities very seriously, supporting all of them through grants, services and programming. In the past six years, the County has provided $868,000 in funding to Wilson Borough and the Wilson Area School District.<\/p>\n

Between 2017 and 2021, Wilson Borough received $638,000 in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). CDBG grants are used for affordable housing, programs that benefit low-to-moderate income persons, and infrastructure needs. Funds may be applied for such projects as accessibility improvements to public facilities, capital improvements for water, sewer or other utilities, street paving, sidewalks, curbing and storm water prevention.<\/p>\n

2017 – $ 75,000<\/p>\n

2018 – $ 70,000<\/p>\n

2019 – $143,000<\/p>\n

2020 – $175,000<\/p>\n

2021 – $175,000<\/p>\n

Total – $638,000<\/p>\n

In 2021, Wilson Borough was awarded a $50,000 in a GrowNORCO grant for a new police vehicle and equipment.<\/p>\n

The County provided $30,000 in Hotel Tax funds in 2020 and $5,000 in 2021 to Wilson Borough for a total of $35,000. Eligible projects in the Hotel Tax program enhance tourism and\/or promote community development within Northampton County.<\/p>\n

Between 2017 and 2020, the County of Northampton provided $145,000 in funding for the Wilson Area School District.<\/p>\n

2021 \u2013 LINCS Program $20,000<\/p>\n

2020 Food Security Funding $25,000<\/p>\n

2020 Broad Band Assistance $50,000<\/p>\n

Total – $145,000<\/p>\n

The County of Northampton wants all of our municipalities to be successful. Successful means having the resources to build safe and healthy communities. The County is committed to make sure its boroughs, townships and cities have the funding they need to achieve that goal.<\/p>\n
