Accepting Applications for 2016-2017 School Year<\/strong><\/p>\n Allentown School District\u2019s Newest High School to Add 150 Freshmen<\/strong><\/p>\n Allentown, PA (February 8, 2016)<\/strong> \u00a0Building 21 Allentown High School, the Allentown School District\u2019s newest school, is taking applications for incoming 9th graders for the 2016-2017 school year between February 1 and March 4. Building 21 Allentown will be adding 150 incoming freshman to its school roster next year.<\/p>\n All 8th\u00a0grade students who are moving on to 9th\u00a0grade are eligible to apply for Building 21 Allentown providing they live within the Allentown School District boundaries. There are no admission criteria, no fees, and no \u201cscreens\u201d for selecting students. A lottery will be used to determine the first 150 students with additional applicants being placed on a waiting list.<\/p>\n Interested students can click this link to fill out an application online at:\u00a0https:\/\/building21.schoolmint.net\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n Building 21 Allentown opened in September 2015 with approximately 150 9th graders. This new high school offers a unique approach to the academic experience through a competency-based educational model that provides flexibility in how, what and where students learn. Students focus on project-based learning in core classes, use technology to master literacy and math skills and explore their own personal interests and passions both inside and outside the school. Students choose from a variety of instructional opportunities that include blended learning, project-based learning and experiential learning.\u00a0Through external partnerships with higher education, businesses and community organizations, students are exposed to a wide array of academic and career-related fields.<\/p>\n Building 21 Allentown students will begin their school day at 9:00 a.m. and end it at 4:00 p.m. allowing time to work in internships throughout the community. The school is located at 265 Lehigh Street, Allentown. The school is a partnership with Building 21, an educational non-profit organization based in Philadelphia that partners with school districts to develop high schools that\u00a0allows students to learn at their own pace, engage with content and curriculum that they find interesting and relevant, and further develop their skills in real-world environments.<\/p>\n About Allentown School District<\/strong><\/p>\n ASD serves more than 16,000 students in a network of 22 early childhood, elementary, middle and high schools located throughout the City of Allentown, PA.
