The City of Allentown is partnering with the Downtown Allentown Business Alliance and PPL to present the\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cAllentown Tree Lighting Ceremony\u00a0– Powering the Season\u00a0<\/em>presented by PPL\u201d\u00a0on Saturday, December 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ArtsPark in Downtown Allentown.<\/p>\n

Festivities include musical performances, dance acts, horse-drawn carriage rides, face painting, hot cocoa, smores making, a photo booth and appearances by Pip the Mouse, MeLVin, and Santa Claus.<\/p>\n

The William Allen Dance Team, the Dieruff Band and Dieruff Jazz Band will be the featured performers.<\/p>\n

The Lehigh Valley Marine Corp. Toys for Tots will also be in attendance to distribute free toys to children on a first come, first served basis. All activities are free, except for local vendor holiday treat sales.<\/p>\n

New this year: Leading up to this event, the Downtown Allentown Business Alliance and PPL will host an essay competition open to all 5th<\/sup>\u00a0graders in the Allentown School District. The topic of the essay is \u201cWhy Do You Love Allentown?\u2019 The winner of the competition will assist Mayor Matt Tuerk, PPL Electric Utilities President Steph Raymond and Santa Claus in lighting Allentown\u2019s tree.<\/p>\n

The Allentown Tree Lighting Ceremony \u2013\u00a0Powering the Season<\/em>\u00a0is sponsored by the\u00a0City of Allentown, PPL, City Center Allentown, GOLD Credit Union, Gross McGinley, and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.<\/p>\n

4:00-4:45 p.m. \u2013 Performances from William Allen High School and Dieruff High School<\/p>\n

4:45 p.m. \u2013 Santa arrives on a fire truck with PPL Electric Utilities truck following along<\/p>\n

5:00 p.m. \u2013\u00a0Tree lighting program with Mayor Matt Tuerk, PPL Electric Utilities President Steph Raymond, Santa,\u00a0and ASD student<\/p>\n

5:15-7:00 p.m. \u2013 More performances from various local organizations<\/p>\n
