{"id":115361,"date":"2022-12-29T19:11:56","date_gmt":"2022-12-30T00:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=115361"},"modified":"2022-12-29T19:12:58","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T00:12:58","slug":"update-on-northampton-county-prison-december-28-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=115361","title":{"rendered":"Update on Northampton County Prison &#8211; December 28, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Director of Corrections reports that, as of December 28<sup>th<\/sup>, there are no cases of COVID-19 among inmates or staff at Northampton County Prison (NCP).<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the pandemic, 493 inmates have tested positive; 493 have finished their quarantine periods or are no longer at NCP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the holiday season, people will be traveling to gather with friends and family, increasing the chances for transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses,\u201d says Lamont McClure. \u201cI encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated and boosted and to wear a mask when in the presence of someone who is vulnerable to infection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since March 2020, NCP has conducted 10,347 tests for COVID-19 on inmates. All new inmates are tested when they come into the facility and must show a negative result before they are transferred to General Population; residents are tested when they show signs and symptoms associated with the virus. In-person visitation is prohibited. Volunteers have returned to the facility and all volunteers must be vaccinated. Inmates participating in work release or work programs within NCP must also be vaccinated. Masks are provided to any inmate who wants one.<\/p>\n<p>NCP has held 60 vaccination clinics, providing 935 inmates with vaccinations and another 78 with boosters. Currently, 284 inmates in the facility are fully vaccinated and 41 have received at least one booster. Shots for inmates and staff are administered by PrimeCare Medical. The vaccinations are not compulsory and are only provided to those who request them.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 518 inmates in residence at NCP.<\/p>\n<p>Virus mitigation measures for employees include masking with N-95 masks, daily temperature checks, hand sanitizer stations, increased cleaning\/disinfection protocols, COVID-19 tests available at the drive-through testing center or through a personal physician, ionizer and electrostatic sprayers throughout the facility, social distancing and frequent hand washing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The drive-through testing\/vaccination clinic at 3100 Emrick Blvd in Bethlehem Township has closed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vaccines and boosters are available by appointment only for those age 6-months and older at the LVH-Hecktown Oaks Hospital Campus, 3780 Hecktown Road, Easton, PA between 10AM and 6PM on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> Thursdays of each month. The drive-through site is open to everyone, <strong>but only residents of Northampton County will receive a free test if they do not have health coverage. <\/strong>All testing will be through Health Network Lab Medicine unless insurance requires an alternate laboratory.
