HARRISBURG, Jan. 3 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>State Rep. Peter Schweyer took the oath of office in the state Capitol today to serve the new 134th<\/sup>\u00a0Legislative District in Lehigh County.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s ceremony marked the beginning of the 2023-24 session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Schweyer\u2019s fifth term as legislator.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new year and the new legislative session mean a fresh start to overcome our challenges and focus on the issues important to the people of Pennsylvania,\u201d said Schweyer, D-Lehigh. \u201cI will focus on the basics, like creating family-sustaining jobs, ensuring access to health care, and fighting to keep our neighborhoods safe. And, as always, my top priority is ensuring that the students of the Allentown, East Penn and Salisbury school districts have the resources they need to succeed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am looking forward to working with Governor-Elect Shapiro, Lt. Governor-Elect Davis and the vastly-changed state House to create meaningful policies that will benefit working-class families throughout the Lehigh Valley.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schweyer\u2019s committee assignments for the 2023-24 session will be announced later this month.<\/p>\n

The new 134th<\/sup>\u00a0Legislative District includes portions of the city of Allentown [Wards 2 and 3, Ward 11 (Districts 1 and 3), Ward 12, Ward 13 (Districts 1, 2 and 3), Ward 16 and Ward 19], the borough of Emmaus, and portions of Salisbury Township [Wards 4 and 5].<\/p>\n
