(Feb. 28, 2023) &#8211; Lehigh Valley Reilly Children\u2019s Hospital today cut the ribbon to celebrate the addition of 20 pediatric inpatient beds, expanding the children\u2019s hospital\u2019s medical-surgical inpatient capacity to 50.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion reflects the growing demand for specialized pediatric care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe need for this expansion was emphasized during the recent surge with the increased number of patients who were admitted to our hospital with respiratory illnesses,\u201d said J. Nathan Hagstrom, MD, Physician-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Reilly Children\u2019s Hospital. \u201cThere is a real need for additional pediatric beds in our community and we are thrilled to expand access to families in our region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 50 inpatient pediatric beds are complemented by other pediatric services at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children\u2019s Hospital including 12 observation beds situated next to the 25-bed children\u2019s emergency room, a 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit and a 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit. Lehigh Valley Reilly Children\u2019s Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by pediatric specialists and hospitalists who have expert training to care for the unique needs of sick and injured children. These specialists are available around the clock to respond to patient needs.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last 10 years, Lehigh Valley Reilly Children\u2019s Hospital has grown significantly with more than 100 locations caring for kids. Today, the children&#8217;s hospital has the most pediatric specialists in the region and offers more than 30 specialties just for kids. We also have the region\u2019s only Children\u2019s ER, Children\u2019s ExpressCAREs, Children\u2019s Surgery Center, Children\u2019s Cancer Center and highest level (Level IV) NICU.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/\">Lehigh Valley Health Network<\/a>\u00a0(LVHN) includes 13 hospital campuses, four in Allentown, two in Bethlehem, one in Easton, one in East Stroudsburg, one in Hazleton, two in Pottsville, one in Dickson City, and one in\u00a0Lehighton, Pa.; 28 health centers; numerous primary and specialty care physician practices; 20\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/medical-services\/expresscare\">ExpressCARE<\/a>\u00a0locations including the area\u2019s only\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/medical-services\/childrens-expresscare\">Children\u2019s ExpressCARE<\/a>; pharmacy, imaging, home health, rehabilitation and lab services; and preferred provider services through Valley Preferred. Specialty care includes: trauma care for adults and children; burn care at the Regional Burn Center; kidney and pancreas transplants; perinatal\/neonatal, cardiac, cancer, orthopedics, neurology, complex neurosurgery capabilities including national certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center; and robotic surgery in 10 specialties.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/institutes\/lehigh-valley-cancer-institute\">Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/institutes\/lehigh-valley-heart-institute\">Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/institutes\/lehigh-valley-institute-surgical-excellence\">Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/institutes\/lehigh-valley-orthopedic-institute\">Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lvhn.org\/institutes\/lehigh-valley-fleming-neuroscience-institute\">Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute<\/a>\u00a0physicians provide the most advanced treatments.
