{"id":117386,"date":"2023-04-06T21:14:51","date_gmt":"2023-04-07T01:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=117386"},"modified":"2023-04-06T21:14:51","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T01:14:51","slug":"allentown-mayor-announces-new-hire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=117386","title":{"rendered":"ALLENTOWN MAYOR ANNOUNCES NEW HIRE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>April 5, 2023 <\/strong>&#8211; Mayor Matt Tuerk announced today that Lucinda Wright will join the Mayor\u2019s Office team to serve as the Equity and Inclusion Coordinator for the City of Allentown starting May 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Wright has served as the City\u2019s Special Events Manager for the past four years. In this position she is responsible for planning and coordinating special events that occur in the City of Allentown including Juneteenth, the Halloween Parade, and Lights in the Parkway.<\/p>\n<p>As Equity and Inclusion Coordinator, Wright will help the City nurture a supportive and inclusive workplace by assessing each department for inclusivity and belonging, make recommendations for improvement, and assist managers with implementation. She will also assist the City\u2019s Human Relations Commission in collaborating with organizations across Allentown as they work through their progress in the diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Equity and Inclusion Coordinator will need to lead change in Allentown,\u201d said Tuerk. \u201cLucinda is the perfect candidate for this position partly because she knows this community, and also because she\u2019s demonstrated an ability to lead change in a large organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to working for the City, Wright served as the assistant director at Bright Futures, a local early learning center, for over a decade. Her work focused on inclusive classroom settings and early intervention for children who displayed developmental delays or behavioral concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In her action plan, she created a mentorship program at the center that facilitated additional specialized training for employees in the early childhood setting and established inclusive practices through partnership with local organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Wright, who was born and raised in Allentown, is bilingual and attended both Allen and Dieruff High Schools and earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in Business Administration from Muhlenberg College Wescoe School of Continuing Education.<\/p>\n<p>The City is currently hiring a Special Events Manager to ensure a smooth transition into its busy event season.
