{"id":117816,"date":"2023-04-25T21:27:34","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T01:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=117816"},"modified":"2023-04-25T21:28:37","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T01:28:37","slug":"muncy-resident-named-kidspeace-pennsylvania-foster-parent-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=117816","title":{"rendered":"Muncy Resident Named KidsPeace Pennsylvania Foster Parent of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCHNECKSVILLE, PA (April 25, 2023)<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs (FCCP) has announced that\u00a0<strong>Monique Shoemaker of Muncy has been chosen as its 2023 State Foster Parent of the Year for Pennsylvania<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The recognition is part of KidsPeace\u2019s National Foster Parent of the Year program, now in its second year as a celebration of National Foster Care Month in May.\u00a0 Foster families from each of the six states served by KidsPeace FCCP are nominated to be considered for the National designation &#8211; to be announced at the KidsPeace FCCP Virtual National Conference on Saturday, May 6.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Shoemaker was chosen by state FCCP leadership for the recognition following her nomination by Jessie Young, program manager at the FCCP office in Williamsport. In her nomination Young noted\u00a0<strong>Ms. Shoemaker\u2019s work with sibling groups who are facing challenges related to health and traumatic experiences;\u00a0<\/strong>her first group included a boy whose traumatic experiences led to destructive behaviors:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Monique stood by this boy as he went to interviews at the Child Advocacy Center, when he confessed to his doctor of his sexual abuse and for parent teacher conferences to discuss his poor behavior in school.\u00a0 She found him counseling and gave him unending understanding and unconditional love.\u00a0 This boy and his sister moved to be with a Kin resource.\u00a0 Monique visits with him often and they talk on the phone.\u00a0 While he continues to struggle, he has made incredible progress\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u2026 Mo really just wants to be a safe haven for children from hard places.\u00a0 She makes them feel loved and wanted, often for the first time\u2026 All this is to say, Mo is an amazing foster parent.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Selection as a KidsPeace FCCP State Foster Parent of the Year comes with a plaque and a monetary award.\u00a0 The family chosen as the National Foster Parent of the Year also will receive\u00a0<strong>an all-expenses-paid trip to trip to this year\u2019s National Family Focused Treatment Association\u2019s conference in Columbus, Ohio in July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Since 1882, KidsPeace has been building on its expertise to give hope, help and healing to children, adults and those who love them.
