With the right approach, and a little help from a fitness expert, you can revive those healthy resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret: When we\u2019re physically healthy, we tend to be happier, more productive, and less likely to need a doctor. That\u2019s why so many of us resolve each new year to get more exercise.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\">Unfortunately, those fitness resolutions often crash and burn within weeks under the weight of self-doubt, unrealistic goals and expectations, procrastination, fear, and uncertainty about where to start and what to do, according to Bryan and Patty Sibbach, fitness consultants for the Capital Blue Cross Connect Health and Wellness Center at Hampden Marketplace, Enola.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\">The Sibbachs, fitness entrepreneurs who operate two Precision Training Concepts fitness studios in the Harrisburg region, are fitness optimists. With the right approach, those broken resolutions can rise from the ashes, they say:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hit the Reset &#8211; \u201cYou can always hit the reset button,\u201d Patty Sibbach said. \u201cIt\u2019s never too late. Don\u2019t get discouraged because you failed the first time.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Know the why \u2013 \u201cAsk yourself, \u2018why get fit? Why now?\u2019\u201d Bryan Sibbach said. \u201cYou have to want it.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Set realistic goals \u2013 \u201cYou have to have a series of realistic goals,\u201d Patty said. \u201cSmaller changes lead to bigger and better results.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Keep it simple \u2013 \u201cThere\u2019s 168 hours in a week,\u201d Bryan said. \u201cLet\u2019s start with a good gameplan.\u201d That could include stretching, flexibility exercises, resistance training, walking, and choosing apples over Doritos. \u201cJust keep it simple. It\u2019s cardio, resistance, and good nutrition,\u201d Bryan said.<\/li>\n<li>No negative self-talk \u2013<span class=\"\">\u00a0\u201cPeople can be their own worst enemy,\u201d Bryan explained. \u201cThey\u2019ll say, \u2018I don\u2019t look good. I don\u2019t feel good.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/selfcontrol.psych.lsa.umich.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/KrossJ_Pers_Soc_Psychol2014Self-talk_as_a_regulatory_mechanism_How_you_do_it_matters.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"\">Research shows<\/span><\/a><span class=\"\">\u00a0negative self-talk can negatively influence mental and physical health and diminish our ability to manage stress.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Educate yourself \u2013 Not knowing what to do or how to start is a huge\u00a0<span class=\"\">obstacle to fitness, the Sibbachs say.\u00a0<\/span>Trainers can help people learn what to do and how to start based on their current age, fitness level, and goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employers like healthy employees too, and that\u2019s why a growing number of employers offer access to fitness experts as part of their workplace health programs.<\/p>\n<p>Capital Blue Cross employees, for example, can get free fitness consultations and significant fitness training discounts through in-house personal trainers and through its five\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capitalbluecrossconnect.com\/\">Capital Blue Cross Connect health and wellness centers<\/a>. Capital fitness instructors also work directly with some of the companies who subscribe to its health plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvesting in your body is the most important investment you\u2019ll ever make,\u201d Patty said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsk a professional,\u201d Bryan added. \u201cI could go buy all the tools and try to fix my car myself on a Sunday afternoon, but it\u2019s not going to end well. I\u2019m going to let the professionals fix my car.
