{"id":119588,"date":"2023-06-13T21:52:35","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T01:52:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=119588"},"modified":"2023-06-13T21:52:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-14T01:52:35","slug":"lehigh-valley-greenways-conservation-landscape-awards-over-86k-in-grants-to-support-conservation-recreation-and-education-in-lehigh-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=119588","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh Valley Greenways Conservation Landscape awards over $86K in grants to support conservation, recreation, and education in Lehigh Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">(Easton, June 6)\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lehigh Valley Greenways Conservation Landscape\u00a0has\u00a0announced new awards totaling more than $86,000\u00a0in\u00a0mini grants to advance the goals of land conservation and restoration, outdoor recreation, community revitalization\u00a0through green infrastructure, and environmental education throughout the two-county region\u00a0of Lehigh\u00a0Valley.<\/span> <span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lehigh Valley Greenways Mini Grant Program is a reimbursement grant program funded by\u00a0the\u00a0Pennsylvania\u00a0Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and administered by the Delaware\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Lehigh National Heritage Corridor\u00a0(DLNHC).\u00a0The purpose of the Lehigh Valley Greenways Mini Grant Program is to protect and promote natural resources through the implementation of ready-to-go, single-year projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The 2023 Lehigh Valley Greenways Mini Grant application period closed on March 16 and attracted a large group of applications requesting just shy of $120,000. Lehigh Valley Greenways has\u00a0awarded\u00a0$86,500\u00a0in support\u00a0of\u00a013 projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">2023 Mini Grant Recipients<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Borough of Northampton<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$3,000<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, to support\u00a0the\u00a0design and installation of Memorial Monarch Butterfly Gardens at Canal Park in Northampton Borough,\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0guidelines provided by Monarch Watch Monarch Waystation Program.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Bushkill Township<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$1,800,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to support Bushkill Township Official Map update.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Coalition for Appropriate Transportation<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$4,300,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support the \u201cEverybody Rides LV 2023!\u201d, a guided bike-ride program with community partners.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Community Bike Works<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$10,000,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to support\u00a0Youth Bike Education through\u00a0workshops with a focus on sustainability and healthy living.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Hellertown Borough<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">, $10,000,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support restoration of the tree canopy in the woodlands along the western edge of the Saucon Rail\u00a0Trail\u00a0bordering Saucon Creek.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lehigh Carbon Community College<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$6,900,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support delivery of\u00a0Field Biology classes\u00a0to ten\u00a0Promise\u00a0Corps participants\u00a0in\u00a0collaboration with Promise Neighborhoods.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lehigh County Conservation District<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$4,700,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support\u00a0the\u00a0improvement of\u00a0a\u00a0pocket park\u00a0adjacent to\u00a0Trout Creek Harrison St. Trailhead,\u00a0installing a\u00a0pollinator garden, nature journaling benches, wooden cave, magnifying station, boulders, tree stump\u00a0seating, edible\u00a0and aromatic native trees and shrubs,\u00a0and\u00a0signage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lehigh County Conservation District<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$10,000,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support stabilization and fish enhancement\u00a0along 730\u2019 of the\u00a0Little Lehigh Creek\u00a0in the Lehigh Parkway off Keystone Avenue in Allentown,\u00a0upstream\u00a0of\u00a0the Lil Le Hi Fish Hatchery.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lower Mount Bethel Township<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$10,000,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0installation of\u00a0a\u00a0vegetated swale at Centerfield School Park and Municipal Complex.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Upper Macungie Township<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$10,000,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support improvements at Grange Park, including planting of\u00a0over 30\u00a0mature trees and installation of double-sided outdoor information board and publication racks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Valley Mountain Bikers<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$7,600,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support\u00a0the\u00a0production and installation of maps and welcome kiosks at five major\u00a0mountain bike\u00a0trail systems across Lehigh and Northampton counties.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$3,200,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0to support\u00a0the\u00a0production of\u00a0illustrated\u00a0Lehigh Valley\u00a0watershed maps in poster and brochure-sized formats.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0$5,000\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to support a Walnutport Buffer Walking Tour installation with demonstration plots on a\u00a0D&amp;L\u00a0Trail spur.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">To learn more about Lehigh Valley Greenways, visit:\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvgreenways.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.lvgreenways.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1686793241763000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2Cg6zMiB69WHTqMfo_G-8T\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">www.lvgreenways.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Delaware &amp; Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that preserves the historic pathway that carried coal and iron from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol.
