HARRISBURG<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) took part in a reception in New York City last Sunday to welcome democratically elected Vice President Lai Ching-te of Taiwan. Lai\u2019s appearance was part of a 24-hour stopover en route to Paraguay to attend the inauguration ceremony for that country\u2019s new president.<\/p>\n \u201cI believe it is important to stand with our democratic partners in the Indo-Pacific region whenever we can,\u201d said Mackenzie. \u201cIt was a pleasure to meet the vice president.\u201d<\/p>\n Lai is the leading presidential candidate in Taiwan\u2019s upcoming election to succeed outgoing\u00a0President Tsai Ing-wen.
