Treasury can help Pennsylvanians who knead their unclaimed dough<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Harrisburg, PA\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 In celebration of National Pizza Month, Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today that nearly $11 million\u00a0is owed to people and businesses with a name that includes the words\u00a0Pizza, Crust, Dough, Cheese, Slice, Pie, Margherita, Italy, New York, and Chicago.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt may sound cheesy, but it\u2019s my supreme honor to return unclaimed property to its rightful owners,\u201d Garrity said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s as easy as pie to search on our website for your slice of the $4.5 billion in unclaimed property waiting at Treasury. You can even search right from your phone! Just visit\u00a0patreasury.gov\/unclaimed-property<\/a>\u00a0to see if you or anyone you know has any dough waiting to be claimed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, insurance policies, and more. It can also be tangible property like the contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.<\/p>\n

Tangible property that is secured in Treasury\u2019s Vault\u00a0may be auctioned after three years if the property is unable to be returned to the rightful owner, and auction proceeds are kept in perpetuity for rightful owners to claim. Treasury never auctions military decorations and memorabilia.<\/p>\n

In fiscal year 2023-24, Treasury\u00a0returned a record amount of unclaimed property<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 nearly $274 million.<\/p>\n

In total, Treasury is seeking the owners of more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property. One in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property, and the average value of a claim is $1,600.<\/p>\n
