Jeanne McNeill\u2019s legislation that would help students involved in school district residency disputes passed the House today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/cfdocs\/billInfo\/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2023&amp;sInd=0&amp;body=H&amp;type=B&amp;bn=0663\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/cfdocs\/billInfo\/billInfo.cfm?sYear%3D2023%26sInd%3D0%26body%3DH%26type%3DB%26bn%3D0663&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1699998198856000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0ajdRGLu9EBJSpWHydlM0k\">House Bill 663<\/a>\u00a0would stipulate that, in the event of a residency dispute between school districts, a school district would not be permitted to remove a child from school until the dispute has been fully resolved and it has been determined which school district should correctly enroll the child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen residency disputes between school districts occur across Pennsylvania, it can take weeks or more for such disputes to be fully resolved,\u201d said McNeill. \u201cHowever, current law forces these students involved to be removed from the school by the school district they\u2019d been attending until the dispute is resolved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne such occurrence happened in my community, as it involved a student with a disability who, for more than 30 days, was without the supportive educational instruction and care they needed,\u201d McNeill said. \u201cThis is completely unacceptable. Additionally, if it is happening in my community, then it is happening elsewhere.
