{"id":130320,"date":"2024-05-07T23:01:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-08T03:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=130320"},"modified":"2024-05-07T23:01:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T03:01:16","slug":"learn-from-environmental-experts-while-walking-on-the-trail-may-11-and-june-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=130320","title":{"rendered":"Learn From Environmental Experts While Walking on the Trail May 11 and June 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By: Dave Block<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.karlstirnerartstrail.org\/learn-from-environmental-experts-while-walking-on-the-trail-may-11-and-june-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.karlstirnerartstrail.org\/learn-from-environmental-experts-while-walking-on-the-trail-may-11-and-june-1\/<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Two Walk and Talk events in May and June will give residents the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Karl Stirner Arts Trail (KSAT) and get in some steps while learning about environmental topics from local experts.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Rob Christopher and Miranda Wilcha from the city of Easton\u2019s Urban Conservation Office will guide a walk along the KSAT and provide an overview of the state of the riparian landscape, how it is changing and being affected by climate change, invasives, and other human activities, and the benefits to creating successional generations with a diversity of tree varieties.<\/p>\n<p>The event will begin at the Richard McAteer Memorial Bridge (\u201cblue bridge\u201d). Use parking at 900 Bushkill Drive.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m., Lafayette College\u2019s Dru Germanoski, Dr. Ervin R. VanArtsdalen Professor of Geology, and David Brandes, Walter A. Scott Chair of Integrative Engineering, will discuss how dams impact stream dynamics, the process of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/area\/lehighvalley\/bushkill-creek-set-to-flow-freely-into-the-delaware-river-thanks-to-number-of-dams\/article_67582162-2016-11ee-a699-9f10e5f2c32a.html\">dam removal on Bushkill Creek<\/a>, and the benefits to the local environment.<\/p>\n<p>The event will begin in the parking lot at N. 3rd Street and Bushkill Drive behind Don Juan Mex Grill.<\/p>\n<p>The events are sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nurturenaturecenter.org\/\">Nurture Nature Center<\/a>\u00a0and KSAT.
