Lehigh Valley, PA \u2013 May X, 2024<\/strong>, The Suicide Prevention Coalition presents\u00a0Chris Nee\u2019s Comedy to Break the Stigma on June 1st<\/sup>\u00a0at 8pm at\u00a0<\/em>Civic\u00a0Theater in Allentown. Comedians include Chris Nee, Tyler Rothrock, Jake Mattera, Gracie Canaan, Albert Davis, Rachel Peters, Steve Bikel, and John Amendolia. Tickets are $35 available online at\u00a0https:\/\/whennow.com\/event\/comedy-to-break-the-stigma<\/a>. Proceeds benefit\u00a0Aevidum<\/a>, an organization focused on empowering youth to shatter the silence surrounding mental health and\u00a0suicide.<\/p>\n

About The Suicide Prevention Coalition (SPC) of Lehigh County<\/strong><\/p>\n

SPC\u2019s mission is: To save lives by reducing suicides in Lehigh County. The Suicide Prevention Coalition (SPC) of Lehigh County is a collaborative organization that supports social service organizations, communities and other groups concerned about the rising number of deaths by suicide.<\/p>\n

SPC\u2019s mission is made possible by funding from Lehigh County Mental Health and a community project grant from SAHMSA facilitated by Representative Susan Wild.\u00a0 Pinebrook Family Answers provides the backbone support for The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Lehigh County.\u00a0For more information,\u00a0www.suicidepreventionlc.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Coalition is made up of a 16-member Steering Team that supports two Action Teams\u00a0<\/u>Prevention & Intervention\u00a0and Awareness & Engagement. The Steering Team members include Coroner, Lehigh County Mental Health and The Department of Human Services, Allentown Police Department, NAMI, the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Allentown Health Bureau, Allentown Dept. of Economic Development, AFSP Eastern Regional Co-chair, St. Luke’s Health Network, and Lehigh Valley Health Network, and the CEO of Pinebrook Family Answers.<\/p>\n

SUICIDE STATISTICS IN LEHIGH COUNTY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our area has seen an increase in young adult (ages 19 \u2013 28) suicides. Black and Hispanic deaths have increased 100% and 500% respectively. The 2021 Pennsylvanian Youth Survey of Lehigh County students indicate in the past 12 months: 37% of 10th graders and 35% of 12th graders felt depressed, 23% of 10TH graders & 20% of 12TH graders considered suicide, and 13% of 10th graders & 10% of 12th graders attempted suicide. Currently, 54.3% of Lehigh County is between the ages of 18 and 64; this cohort has our highest rate of suicide by age group consistently since 2011.<\/p>\n
