LCA to host six open houses for the public to learn about investments in the region\u2019s wastewater infrastructure, estimated nearly $300 million over the next 10 years.<\/em><\/p>\n

Allentown, PA <\/strong>\u2013 This month, Lehigh County Authority (LCA) will host six open houses in Lehigh County to share information about its regional wastewater plan. The Kline\u2019s Island Sewer System (KISS) serves 15 municipalities in the region through a network of nearly 1,000 miles of underground pipes that flow to a regional treatment plant in Allentown. The system is aging and running near its full capacity. Investments are needed to rehabilitate and upgrade the system to continue to meet regulations that help protect public health and the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe solutions to address these sewer system challenges will be complex and expensive, with current cost estimates totaling about $300 million over the next decade. We\u2019d like the public\u2019s input to help shape the plan details,\u201d says LCA CEO Liesel Gross.<\/p>\n

Prior plan estimates, rolled out in public meetings last year, totaled nearly $600 million. What\u2019s different with the updated plan is the removal of an upgrade project for LCA\u2019s pretreatment plant in Fogelsville. That project is still needed but will be developed in direct partnership with the industries that require pretreatment service.<\/p>\n

During the open house events listed below, Gross will offer a brief presentation at 7:00 p.m. at weeknight sessions and at 10:00 a.m. on the Saturdays listed. The public is invited to spend time during the event viewing exhibits, speaking with a team of experts, and submitting questions and comments on the KISS sewer plan.
