{"id":137173,"date":"2024-11-09T18:17:59","date_gmt":"2024-11-09T23:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=137173"},"modified":"2024-11-09T18:17:59","modified_gmt":"2024-11-09T23:17:59","slug":"dr-trina-wijangco-memorial-scholarship-pickleball-fundraiser-scheduled-for-november-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=137173","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Trina Wijangco Memorial Scholarship Pickleball Fundraiser  Scheduled for November 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine, St. Luke\u2019s Sports Medicine, and St. Luke\u2019s Development are teaming up to hold \u201cPlay It Forward: The Dr. Trina Wijangco Memorial Scholarship Pickleball Event\u201d on Sunday, November 24, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The event \u2013 which is open to the public \u2013 will be held at St. Luke\u2019s SportsPlex and Pickleball Lehigh Valley, 4636 Crackersport Road, Allentown, and will include competitive and social pickleball games, free lessons, pizza, music, a raffle and prizes. Check-in begins at 11 am.<\/p>\n<p>This event is a celebration of Dr. Wijangco\u2019s life and is a Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/shopsluhn.org\/products\/dr-trina-wijangco-memorial-scholarship-pickleball-tournament\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/shopsluhn.org\/products\/dr-trina-wijangco-memorial-scholarship-pickleball-tournament&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1731170419004000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0TLfzWUTn-NvSNG7EhUgCg\">The registration fee is $20 per person<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Wijangco was kind, compassionate and cared about everyone. She was such a beautiful soul and an incredible person,\u201d says Ike Akusoba, MD, Director of Student Advocacy and Community Engagement at Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from the pickleball event will benefit the Trina Wijangco, MD Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, which awards scholarships to deserving students who are dedicated to enhancing diversity in medical education and\/or have a proven track record of serving historically underserved or underprivileged communities.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wijangco earned her MD from the Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine in 2021 and was pursuing her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York at the time of her death.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wijangco\u2019s impact was profound and enduring.
