Harrisburg, PA\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Treasurer Stacy Garrity today announced that payments totaling more than $315 million were disbursed to the approximately 517,500 Pennsylvanians who were approved for the Property Tax\/Rent Rebate Program in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program is tremendously important for seniors and people with disabilities,\u201d Treasurer Garrity said. \u201cInflation continues to make it difficult for so many Pennsylvanians to make ends meet, and these rebates can make a huge difference. I\u2019m thrilled the General Assembly and the Governor expanded the program last year to provide even more help, and Treasury will continue to process the few remaining payments as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Property Tax\/Rent Rebate Program<\/a>\u00a0benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and people with disabilities age 18 and older.<\/p>\n

The General Assembly and the Governor expanded the program in 2024 to increase household income limits for rebates to $45,000 for homeowners and renters (up from $35,000 and $15,000, respectively). Claimants may exclude half of their Social Security income. The maximum standard rebate is now $1,000 (up from $650).<\/p>\n

Nearly 97% of all Property Tax\/Rent Rebate Program payments have been made to those who applied in 2024. The Department of Revenue continues to review and approve the remaining applications; once approvals are sent to Treasury, the payments are typically processed and sent in a matter of days.<\/p>\n

Of the payments sent so far to those who applied in 2024, 55 percent were processed via direct deposit, while 45 percent were paper checks mailed via the U.S. Postal Service.<\/p>\n
