BETHLEHEM, Pa. (April 3, 2025) \u2014 <\/strong>Moravian Academy<\/a>, a private day school in Lehigh Valley, launched a summer individualized intensive educational program for students entering first grade through sixth grade in the 2025-26 school year. The six-week program, running from July 7 to Aug. 11, is designed to support student growth in critical areas like math and English Language Arts (ELA) with a focus on research-based educational practices.<\/p>\n

“At Moravian Academy, we see summer as a time for growth\u2014an opportunity for students to explore, discover, and deepen their learning across all areas, including academics,” said Adrianne Finley Odell, Moravian Academy\u2019s Head of School.<\/p>\n

The program aims to combat the \u201csummer slump\u201d phenomenon by providing engaging and practical instruction that empowers students to experience a “summer surge” in their academic skills, preparing them for the upcoming school year with renewed confidence and enthusiasm for learning. The foundation of the program is supported by educational research that emphasizes the importance of individualized instruction and targeted intervention in improving student outcomes.<\/p>\n

Students can select participation for two to six weeks, allowing for flexibility. Instruction will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Merle-Smith Campus. The deadline to enroll is May 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just about preventing learning loss\u2014it\u2019s about giving students the confidence to start the next school year stronger, more prepared and excited about their education,\u201d said Finley Odell. \u201cWe\u2019re eager to welcome both our students and new families from the broader community to experience the impact of individualized summer learning in a nurturing environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program utilizes research-based best practices including small-group instruction, individualized attention and progress monitoring. With small cohort groups of four students per teacher, the program fosters individualized attention and a supportive learning environment.<\/p>\n

Progress monitoring is embedded into the program, which is critical for identifying student growth and making real-time instructional adjustments. Using benchmark data to establish starting points and regular progress monitoring to track growth, teachers can ensure that each student\u2019s learning is continuously tailored to their evolving needs.<\/p>\n
