Washington, D.C. \u2014 Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania\u2019s 7th Congressional District, achieved the passage of his first piece of legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives today.\u00a0The Solidify Iran Sanctions Act of 2025\u00a0<\/i>removes the sunset clause from the\u00a0Iran Sanctions Act of 1996<\/i><\/a>, sending a clear message to Tehran and ensuring that the United States can continue to restrict Iran\u2019s ability to finance terrorism and regional aggression.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the current administration conducts negotiations with Iran and seeks to apply \u201cmaximum pressure,\u201d the United States must send a clear and unwavering message: we will not tolerate Iran\u2019s support for terrorism, its pursuit of nuclear weapons, or its attacks to American service members and allies,\u201d\u00a0said Congressman Mackenzie.<\/b>\u00a0\u201cWith this vote, Congress will strengthen America\u2019s national security standing. The administration\u2019s negotiating position demonstrates that the U.S. remains committed to holding the Iranian regime accountable for its malign behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran continues to manufacture weapons, support terrorist proxies, and carry out attacks that threaten Americans and destabilize the region. Recent Iranian-backed strikes on U.S. troops \u2014 including the\u00a0drone strike<\/a>\u00a0in January of 2024 that killed three American soldiers in Jordan and\u00a0Houthi assaults<\/a>\u00a0on U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Aden \u2014 have underscored the urgent need for continued pressure.<\/p>\n

By preventing the expiration of the original sanctions law, the\u00a0Solidify Iran Sanctions Act<\/i>\u00a0ensures that these critical national security tools remain in place for future administrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud that my first bill to pass the House strengthens our national security and supports our servicemembers,\u201d said Congressman Mackenzie.\u00a0<\/b>\u201cThis is about keeping America safe, protecting our troops, and cutting off the financial lifelines of Iran\u2019s terrorist network.\u201d<\/p>\n
