Northampton County Donates 2018 Dodge Van to Nazareth Ambulance Corps to Expand Mobility Services<\/strong><\/p>\n

[Northampton County, PA] \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0County Executive Lamont G. McClure and Northampton County Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) are pleased to announce the donation of a 2018 Dodge Van 5749 to the Nazareth Ambulance Corps. This donation reflects the County\u2019s commitment to strengthening transportation access for residents and ensuring essential services reach those who need them most.<\/p>\n

The van, which was previously operated by Children and Youth Family Services (CYF), had surpassed its useful lifecycle and was fully depreciated per CYF policy. Rather than retiring the vehicle entirely, Northampton County has opted to reinvest it into the community, continuing its purpose of service through the Nazareth Ambulance Corps\u2019 Mobility Services Team.<\/p>\n

Funding for the donation was provided by DCED using Community Development Block Grant administrative funds to reimburse CYF.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about maximizing the impact of county assets to benefit as many residents as possible,\u201d said County Executive Lamont G. McClure. \u201cThe Nazareth Ambulance Corps provides essential transportation services to our most vulnerable residents. By donating this van, Northampton County is directly supporting those efforts and helping ensure continued access to care and community resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nazareth Ambulance Corps currently provides medical and non-medical transportation to residents of Gracedale County Home, Alexandria Manor, Moravian Hall Square, and patients accessing over 200 facilities across Northampton County and the Lehigh Valley. Their team also serves the Northampton County Prison and hospitals in both the Lehigh Valley Health Network and St Luke\u2019s Health Network.<\/p>\n

In 2024 alone, the team transported approximately 7,000 patients to medical appointments, nursing facilities, and back to their homes. The addition of a passenger van to their fleet\u2014currently consisting of five wheelchair vans and one stretcher van\u2014will allow them to serve ambulatory residents more efficiently and economically, particularly those who do not require specialized medical transport.<\/p>\n

Nazareth Ambulance plans to use the passenger van to support transportation needs related not only to healthcare access but also future community programming, including rides to pharmacies, doctors\u2019 offices, and grocery stores. This aligns with their long-term vision of addressing non-traditional mobility needs for the county\u2019s aging and underserved populations.<\/p>\n

This donation underscores Northampton County\u2019s broader goal of improving the quality of life for all residents through thoughtful, community-centered use of county assets. The DCED remains focused on building stronger connections across the county and supporting organizations that enhance services and promote well-being.<\/p>\n
