Mike Schlossberg joined colleagues in voting to pass the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palegis.us\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/hb1200\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.palegis.us\/legislation\/bills\/2025\/hb1200&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1746742136202000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0kiFIVFryXZhFUAqY-rk0v\">Cannabis Health &amp; Safety Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would end Pennsylvanian\u2019s ineffective prohibition, utilize the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board\u2019s set up for dispensary locations, and direct proceeds to invest in a stronger future for Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPennsylvania finally has a plan that works for everyone,\u201d said Schlossberg, D-Lehigh. \u201cIt finally ends the wasteful prohibition that does not work and begins the process of building a better future for all Pennsylvanians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cannabis Health &amp; Safety Act legalizes adult-use cannabis, sets out protections for Pennsylvania communities, and makes strategic investments by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Limiting sales to 21 or older, and bans child-targeted packaging.<\/li>\n<li>Creating jobs that pay good wages with strong protections for workers.<\/li>\n<li>Empowering local businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Protecting public health by setting potency standards.<\/li>\n<li>Stopping the proliferation of problem vape shops responsible for selling unregulated products to minors and racking up nuisance complaints.<\/li>\n<li>Generating $600 million in revenue.<\/li>\n<li>Reinvesting in our communities through housing, childcare, substance-use treatment, job training and legal services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cFor too long, cannabis prohibition has wasted Pennsylvania\u2019s limited financial resources, while states around us &#8212; Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Ohio &#8212; have found ways to make adult-use legal,\u201d Schlossberg said.<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 1200 now goes to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the start of the process, not the end of it,\u201d he noted. \u201cWe still have a way to go before cannabis is fully legal in Pennsylvania, and this policy will not cure all the ills associated with its use, just like ending alcohol prohibition did not end alcohol-related issues.
