{"id":143195,"date":"2025-06-15T09:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-15T13:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=143195"},"modified":"2025-06-15T09:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T13:38:10","slug":"boscola-announces-305800-state-grant-to-project-of-easton-to-promote-family-literacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=143195","title":{"rendered":"Boscola Announces $305,800 State Grant to ProJeCt of Easton to Promote Family Literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Boscola Announces $305,800 State Grant to ProJeCt of Easton to Promote Family Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bethlehem, PA \u2013 June 13, 2025 <\/strong>\u2013 Senator Lisa Boscola announced today that ProJeCt of Easton has been awarded a $305,800 grant to continue its programming to promote family literacy from the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Family Literacy Direct Service Grant program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProJeCt of Easton has a long and successful history in promoting programs that improve the quality of life for Easton residents, especially in the area of adult and child literacy,\u201d Boscola stated. \u201cThis state funding will assist ProJeCt in continuing to meet its mission to build a better community. The benefit of family literacy of programs cannot be understated due to the life changing opportunities these programs present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) awarded 14 Family Literacy Direct Service Grants totaling more than $3.6 million to 14 education entities across the Commonwealth, including colleges and universities, school districts, community-based organizations, intermediate units (IUs) and more, to support access to literacy services for 540 families with children across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>The Pennsylvania Adult and Family Literacy Education Act, (Act 143 of 1986), provides funding for adult basic and family literacy programs in Pennsylvania. These adult and family literacy programs aim to help adults acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for employment, self-sufficiency, and family involvement in their children&#8217;s education.
