Holly is predicting a prolonged period of excessive heat, expected to begin on Sunday, June 22nd and continue through at least Wednesday, June 25th. The highest heat index values are expected from Monday through Wednesday.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Take the flowing steps to protect yourself:<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Be Informed<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Most heat disorders occur because the victim has been overexposed to heat or has over-exercised for their age and physical condition. Infants and young children, people aged 65 or older and those with chronic medical conditions are more likely to succumb to extreme heat.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Pay close attention to heat advisories or warnings (local television, radio and internet)<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 The two most common types of heat-related illnesses are heat exhaustion and heat stroke<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Never leave your children or pets in a vehicle<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Actions to Keep Cool<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 If you must be outside in the heat, limit activity to morning and evening hours, and try to rest often in the shade<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Dress in light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, a hat, sunglasses and an SPF 15 or higher sunscreen<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Check on family members, older adults and neighbors.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Cover windows with drapes and shades<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Use window reflectors in your home to reflect heat back outside<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 If you don\u2019t have air conditioning, visit a friend\/neighbor, store or mall<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Stay Hydrated<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Drink plenty of water and do not wait until you are thirsty to drink fluids<\/p><p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Stay away from sugary, caffeinated and alcoholic drinks<\/p><p class=\"p1\">For more information on extreme heat, call the Lehigh County Emergency Management Agency at (610) 782-4600<\/p><p><\/p><p>Information provided to TVL by:<\/p><p>Tanya Hook<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEHIGH COUNTY: KEY MESSAGES FOR HEAT PREPAREDNESS Lehigh County, PA &#8211; The National Weather Service at Mt.
