With\u00a0<strong>track records and bragging rights on the line<\/strong>, this electrifying evening features a\u00a0<strong>10-mile scratch race for elite men<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0<strong>5-mile scratch race for elite women<\/strong>\u2014two of the most grueling and prestigious events in American track cycling.<\/p>\n<p>The records currently standing are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Men\u2019s 10-Mile Record<\/strong>: 18:12.5, set by <strong>Bobby Lea<\/strong> of Topton, PA in <strong>2015<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Women\u2019s 5-Mile Record<\/strong>: 10:36.1, set by <strong>Lucy Tyler<\/strong> of Largo, FL in <strong>1995<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Could 2025 be the year they fall?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom riders to race officials, the history of this velodrome is rich with larger-than-life personalities,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Jake Burns<\/strong>, VPCC Marketing Consultant. \u201cArtie Greenberg was one of them\u2014and events like this give us the chance to not only chase records but to celebrate the deep roots and lasting legacy of cycling here in the Lehigh Valley. We\u2019re proud to keep telling these stories through the racing that happens under our lights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The race honors\u00a0<strong>Artie Greenberg<\/strong>, a pioneering wheel builder and one of the first American UCI officials. A New York City native who relocated to the Lehigh Valley for the velodrome, Greenberg made history in 1977 as the youngest person to pass the UCI international commissaire exam. Tragically, he passed away in 1980 following a vehicle accident. Today, this race stands as a tribute to his passion and impact on the sport.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the battle for\u00a0<strong>Rider of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0is tighter than ever at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. With only a few Friday nights left to make moves, this week\u2019s Artie Greenberg Memorial Trophy Race carries serious implications for the leaderboard.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Men\u2019s standings<\/strong>, Louisiana\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Lance Abshire (<\/strong>Chaney Windows &amp; Doors) holds a commanding lead with\u00a0<strong>43 points<\/strong>, followed by New Zealand\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Magnus Jamieson<\/strong>\u00a0(New Zealand) and Pennsylvania\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Liam Trepte<\/strong>\u00a0(TEAMBSR).
