Family-friendly bike tour on the Little Lehigh Watershed offered by Extension<\/strong><\/p>\n An upcoming bike tour with the Penn State Extension<\/a> Watershed Stewards, the Little Lehigh Watershed Stewards, and Lehigh County Conservation District will explore the Little Lehigh Watershed, its history, water quality, and ongoing conservation efforts.<\/p>\n The \u201cWaterways On Wheels: Lehigh Parkway Bike Tour\u201d will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Lehigh Parkway. Registration is required for exact start location.<\/p>\n This workshop is designed for community members and families interested in learning more about the watershed and water quality and supporting conservation and restoration efforts in the watershed.<\/p>\n Along the way, the workshop will cover:<\/p>\n \u2014 The purpose of the Little Lehigh Watershed<\/p>\n \u2014 The purpose and benefits of riparian buffers and other stream restoration techniques<\/p>\n \u2014 What aquatic macroinvertebrates are and their role in assessing stream health<\/p>\n \u2014 The impact of winter salt on waterways and the environment<\/p>\n \u2014 Ways to help create more sustainable watersheds in your community<\/p>\n The ride, including stops, will last approximately two and a half hours and cover six miles along the Little Lehigh Parkway. Along the gravel path, participants will stop at three points to explore the watershed\u2019s history, water quality, and current restoration efforts.<\/p>\n Helmets are required for all cyclists. The gravel trail can accommodate road, mountain or gravel bicycles, and participants should be prepared for small hills. Families are welcome, though children must be able to ride a two-wheel bike independently. Restroom facilities are available along the route, and participants are encouraged to bring water.<\/p>\n Organizers noted that space is limited, so registration is required.
