{"id":145580,"date":"2025-10-14T22:04:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T02:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=145580"},"modified":"2025-10-14T22:04:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T02:04:02","slug":"st-lukes-deemed-safest-hospital-system-in-pennsylvania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=145580","title":{"rendered":"St. Luke&#8217;s Deemed Safest Hospital System in Pennsylvania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Photo caption: Representatives from the six St. Luke\u2019s campuses accept the 2025 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition awards.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Six St. Luke\u2019s University Health Network hospitals \u2013 the most of any health network in the state \u2013 were honored by the Hospital and Healthcare Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) for exemplary results in delivering safe patient care.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its seventh year, HAP\u2019s Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program honored 22 of the commonwealth\u2019s top-performing hospitals that have demonstrated low rates of healthcare-associated infections.<\/p>\n<p>The six St. Luke\u2019s hospitals recognized for exemplary safe patient care include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-hospital-allentown-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s Allentown Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-hospital-anderson-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s Anderson Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-university-hospital-bethlehem-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s University Hospital &#8211; Bethlehem Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-hospital-carbon-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s Carbon Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-hospital-monroe-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s Hospital &#8211; Monroe Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-hospital-upper-bucks-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke&#8217;s Upper Bucks Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is the fifth consecutive year that St. Luke&#8217;s Anderson Campus has been honored through the Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program. The hospital\u2019s team received special recognition for demonstrating consistent, outstanding patient safety outcomes annually from 2021\u20132025.<\/p>\n<p>St. Luke\u2019s University Hospital\u2019s Bethlehem Campus has been honored all seven years. The Bethlehem Campus is the only hospital in the state to earn this important designation every year that HAP has awarded it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere can be only one #1, and by these objective measures, it is St. Luke\u2019s,\u201d said St. Luke\u2019s Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer Donna Sabol. \u201cThis state recognition comes on the heels of being recognized by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality as one of the nation\u2019s top three high performing health systems for safety and quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 honorees were selected based on their performance during 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospitals\u2019 top priority is ensuring high-quality, safe care for their communities,\u201d HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings said. \u201cHAP proudly recognizes the Pennsylvania hospital teams that went above and beyond to demonstrate their commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement and achieved exceptional results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HAP announced the 2025 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition recipients Oct. 8 during its Patient Safety, Quality, and Equity Symposium in Harrisburg.<\/p>\n<p>HAP identifies top-performing hospitals using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s National Healthcare Safety Network. To be recognized, hospitals must perform better than the mean standardized infection ratio in three key measures: central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and occurrences of\u00a0<em>Clostridioides difficile<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About St. Luke\u2019s <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1872, St. Luke\u2019s University Health Network (SLUHN) is a fully integrated, regional, non-profit network with annual net revenue of more than $4 billion. With 23,000+ employees at 16 hospital campuses and 350+ outpatient sites, it is the Lehigh Valley\u2019s biggest employer.<\/p>\n<p>The Network\u2019s service area includes 11 counties in two states: Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Montgomery, Monroe, Schuylkill and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey. It also operates the nation\u2019s oldest School of Nursing, established in 1884, and 50+ fully accredited graduate medical educational programs with 500+ residents and fellows.<\/p>\n<p>St. Luke\u2019s has been named a Leapfrog Group and Healthgrades Top Hospital and a Newsweek World\u2019s Best Hospital. It is the only Lehigh Valley-based health care system to earn Medicare\u2019s five-star ratings (the highest) for quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction. In 2025, the Network earned straight A\u2019s from Leapfrog across all of its 11 acute care hospitals. It has earned 100 Top Hospital designations from Premier 11 years in a row, including in 2021 when its flagship University Hospital was identified as THE #1 TEACHING HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTRY.
