Funding expands life-changing programming that builds confidence, resilience and academic success for high school and middle school student-athletes across the country.<\/em><\/p>\n

October 14, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0AthLife Foundation<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is proud to announce that\u00a071 schools across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.<\/strong>\u00a0will all receive Academic Athletic Coach grants for the 2025-2026 school year. These investments will expand life-changing academic and mentoring support to thousands of student-athletes, helping them not only succeed in school but also thrive in every area of their lives.<\/p>\n

Among the most significant highlights of this year\u2019s expansion:<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Lehigh Valley, PA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A unique investment from\u00a0St. Luke\u2019s University Health Network\u00a0<\/strong>will drive expansion into middle schools, creating the first region in the country with multiple school districts bridging high impact programming from 7th to 12th grade.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Baltimore, MD<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Building on the city\u2019s strong tradition of Academic Athletic Coaches, including the long-established program at Patterson High School,\u00a0Baltimore City Public Schools<\/strong>\u00a0will expand grant support to 16 schools and continue to serve as a model school district of how to transform young people\u2019s lives through sport.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0New York, NY \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Funding in New York City comes through the\u00a0Heisman Trophy Fund for Youth Development<\/strong>\u00a0with the\u00a0New York Community Trust (NYCT)<\/strong>, furthering opportunities for citywide student-athletes.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Hartford, CT<\/strong>\u00a0– Support from the\u00a0State of Connecticut Department of Education\u00a0<\/strong>will fuel expansion to include eight (8) high schools from Hartford Public Schools.<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Additional cities<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Schools in Atlanta, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Port St. Lucie, and Miami-Dade are a part of this growing national network of schools benefiting from the Academic Athletic Coach grants and the\u00a0AthLife Foundation\u2019s General Impact Fund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudent-athletes deserve to believe in themselves as much in the classroom as they do on the court,\u201d said\u00a0Jewel Clark, University of Pennsylvania Hall of Famer<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0AthLife Foundation\u2019s Academic Athletic Coach of the Year<\/strong>. \u201cOur role goes beyond academics; it\u2019s about instilling confidence, building strong relationships, and helping students see themselves as leaders. The real impact of the Academic Athletic Coach is when students tell you you\u2019ve changed their lives, not just by helping them graduate, but by helping them believe in themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis expansion to 71 schools is proof that Academic Athletic Coaches make a big difference in the lives of young people,\u201d said\u00a0Jim Steeg, AthLife Foundation Board Chair, Author, former Senior Vice President of Special Events at the NFL,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0former Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Chargers,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe have known for more than two decades that this is a much needed profession in Secondary Education.
