Overcast skies ruled the day, but that didn\u2019t seem to stop the droves of families, friends, and leashed dogs that arrived for Farm Fest III, at Ontelaunee Park in New Tripoli today. It was announced that Farm Fest III was dedicated to the Veterans, and there were a bountiful array of things to do for everyone.<\/p>\n

\"img_4678.jpg\"\u2018Pioneer Village\u2019, returned, with the re-enactment of the Pennsylvania Regiment. Julie Kramer, sat a few feet away working on her tape loom. \u201cBack in these times, women were camp followers, they followed the men. Being left behind, didn\u2019t offer us much protection, and while the men were away, we\u2019d work on tape looms.\u201d These woven bands of string had multiple uses, as Julie explained, \u201c Right now, I\u2019m working on this tape to hold my husbands socks up. Another use, was to hang off the aprons.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the nearby house, the aroma of a fresh pot of cabbage and noodles mingled inbetween a slight breeze.<\/p>\n

\"img_4681.jpg\"Petting areas were set up to meet the Alpacas, and goats. Around the corner was a very popular area for the kids, pony and horse rides. Sofia, age 8, went around the circular course three times during her ride. Afterwards, she boasted that she thoroughly enjoyed her ride and when she grows up she wants to ride horses.<\/p>\n

There were plenty of artists, vendors and non profit organizations present as well. Speaking with Jennifer Gantry, of The Well Armed Woman, she explained the purpose of her organization, where the feminine and firearms meet. \u201cWe educate, equip, and empower women. Some women who come are curious. Others sit on the sidelines. But once they get the gun in their hands and start practicing, I can see a change in their personality. They\u2019re more confident, and empowered.\u201d In the Lehigh Valley, monthly meetings are held in New Tripoli and Easton. A few tents down was Tattered Tails Animal Rescue, Inc, led by Shannon Eichner, president of the Allentown branch. Shannon explained, \u201cour goal here is to educate and raise awareness with network resources and neutering\u201d. A home based organization, takes in surrenders, and pulls from high kill shelters in the south. For more information, please email TTARescue15@gmail.com.<\/p>\n

\"img_4695.jpg\"A Taste of Country, displayed their relishes, jams and jellies near the food trucks and food stands. Owner, Bernice Lenhart , provided free samples of her delicious jalapeno spread, great as a dip, or spreadable on anything imaginable. Stocking the booth, and helping for the day was her daughter, Michele Hazzard, and Chad Knappenberger.<\/p>\n

Funnel cakes, donuts, pulled pork sandwiches, sausages and burger stands were right around the corner. Making his first appearance this year was Veteran Bill Kearen, also with the Lynnport Fire Company, and his grilling partner, Charles Hughes.<\/p>\n

No event would be complete without music, there were bands playing all day long, provided by The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association (GLVMA), pictured are Erin Kelly and Tuesday\u2019s Gone.<\/p>\n
