{"id":146001,"date":"2025-11-07T20:26:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T01:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=146001"},"modified":"2025-11-07T20:26:40","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T01:26:40","slug":"2nd-annual-trina-wijangco-md-memorial-scholarship-tournament-on-nov-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=146001","title":{"rendered":"2nd\u00a0Annual Trina Wijangco, MD, Memorial Scholarship Tournament on Nov. 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Trina Wijangco, MD, Memorial Scholarship Tournament on Nov. 23<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/school-of-medicine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/sports-medicine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke\u2019s Sports Medicine<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke\u2019s Development<\/a>\u00a0are once again teaming up for the Second Annual\u00a0<em>Trina Wijangco, MD, Memorial Scholarship Pickleball and Cornhole Tournament<\/em>\u00a0on Sunday, November 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The event \u2013 which is open to the public \u2013 will be held at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slhn.org\/locations\/stlukes-sportsplex-home-of-pickleball-lehigh-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Luke\u2019s SportsPlex and Pickleball Lehigh Valley<\/a>, 4636 Crackersport Road, Allentown, and will include competitive and social pickleball and cornhole games, lunch for participants, live music, a raffle and prizes. The event runs from 11am \u2013 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>This event is a celebration of Dr. Wijangco\u2019s life and is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/host.nxt.blackbaud.com\/donor-form\/?svcid=renxt&amp;formId=5a96ed1e-5145-40fe-a742-0a320438aff5&amp;envid=p-daB0IHRVtEChGF3PkMr1gA&amp;zone=usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser<\/a>. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/shopsluhn.org\/products\/trina-wijangco-md-memorial-scholarship-pickleball-fundraising-tournament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">registration fee is $35 for pickleball, $25 for cornhole, or $20 as a spectator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from the event will benefit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/host.nxt.blackbaud.com\/donor-form\/?svcid=renxt&amp;formId=5a96ed1e-5145-40fe-a742-0a320438aff5&amp;envid=p-daB0IHRVtEChGF3PkMr1gA&amp;zone=usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trina Wijangco, MD, Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund<\/a>, which awards scholarships to deserving students who are dedicated to enhancing diversity in medical education and\/or have a proven track record of serving historically underserved or underprivileged communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Wijangco left a mark on our medical school with her selflessness and her drive toward health equity and outcomes. Trina believed in going into medicine to help and heal others. To know her was to know a genuine love for others,\u201d says Shaden Eldakar-Hein, MD, Senior Associate Dean of the Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wijangco earned her MD from the Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s School of Medicine in 2021 and was instrumental in co-founding the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce at Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s, a student organization with a goal of supporting traditionally underrepresented minority medical students. She was pursuing her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York at the time of her death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest testament to Dr. Wijangco is that the club is still active and helping individuals from all walks of life,\u201d says Ike Akusoba, MD, Director of Student Advocacy and Community Engagement at Temple\/St. Luke\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the\u00a0<em>Trina Wijangco, MD, Memorial Scholarship Pickleball and Cornhole<\/em>\u00a0event\u00a0is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/shopsluhn.org\/products\/trina-wijangco-md-memorial-scholarship-pickleball-fundraising-tournament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available online<\/a>.
