Events across the Commonwealth continue to highlight Pennsylvania\u2019s central role in America\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>As communities geared up to celebrate the kickoff of the semiquincentennial celebration of America\u2019s founding, Treasurer Garrity returned funds to county officials that had been safeguarded through Treasury\u2019s unclaimed property program.<\/p>\n<p>Properties returned include:<\/p>\n<p>Blair County &#8211; $5,993.63<\/p>\n<p>Bedford County &#8211; $1,544.23<\/p>\n<p>Bradford County &#8211; $1,255.35<\/p>\n<p>Cambria County &#8211; $1,882.92<\/p>\n<p>Fayette &#8211; $6,644.50<\/p>\n<p>Franklin County &#8211; $2,685.00<\/p>\n<p>Fulton County &#8211; $16,243.14<\/p>\n<p>Greene &#8211; $1,496.40<\/p>\n<p>Pike County &#8211; $6,095.64<\/p>\n<p>Somerset County &#8211; $2,221.09<\/p>\n<p>Tioga County &#8211; $1,743.30<\/p>\n<p>Wayne County &#8211; $2,292.78<\/p>\n<p>Westmoreland &#8211; $2,099.62<\/p>\n<p>Wyoming County &#8211; $1,623.99<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoining America250PA to help build up the anticipation of our nation\u2019s 250th birthday has been a meaningful way to celebrate our great state\u2019s role in our nation\u2019s history and bring our communities together,\u201d Treasurer Garrity said. \u201cEvery corner of the Commonwealth has a rich history that helped build our nation, and while we\u2019re reflecting on where we\u2019ve been, more importantly we can look ahead to the incredible future we\u2019re building for the next generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks and more. Property is always available for the rightful owner to claim. Tangible property \u2014 often the contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes \u2014 may be auctioned after three years, but proceeds remain available to claim in perpetuity.<\/p>\n<p>More than $5 billion in unclaimed property is currently safeguarded by Treasury.
