{"id":148230,"date":"2026-03-18T23:42:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T03:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=148230"},"modified":"2026-03-18T23:42:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T03:42:17","slug":"treasurer-stacy-garrity-celebrates-10-million-in-scholarships-claimed-for-youngest-pennsylvanians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=148230","title":{"rendered":"Treasurer Stacy Garrity Celebrates $10 Million in Scholarships Claimed for Youngest Pennsylvanians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Keystone Scholars provides $100 to every child born in Pennsylvania in 2019 and after<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Harrisburg, PA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity today celebrated a milestone for Treasury\u2019s Keystone Scholars program \u2013 more than 100,000 families have claimed their child\u2019s $100 scholarship \u2013 totaling $10 million to help cover future education expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Children born to a Pennsylvania family in 2019 and after, and those subsequently adopted, are eligible for $100 from Keystone Scholars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeystone Scholars gives families a jumpstart on savings and lets them know that we\u2019re here to support their child\u2019s bright future,\u201d Treasurer Garrity said. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled that so many families have claimed their child\u2019s accounts, and I hope other families will do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $100 scholarship from Keystone Scholars is invested by Treasury and grows alongside the child. The money can be used after the child turns 18 for qualifying\u00a0technical, collegiate, apprenticeship and credentialing educational expenses.\u00a0No taxpayer dollars are used to fund Keystone Scholars.<\/p>\n<p>Research shows that even with a modest amount of savings, like Keystone Scholars provides, children are three times more likely to enroll in post-high school education and four times more likely to graduate.<\/p>\n<p>Treasury encourages Keystone Scholars families to continue saving on their own in a companion PA 529 College and Career Savings Program account.
