{"id":148327,"date":"2026-03-23T22:43:58","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=148327"},"modified":"2026-03-23T22:44:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:44:22","slug":"lehigh-county-girl-scout-awarded-prestigious-girl-scout-medal-of-honor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=148327","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh County Girl Scout Awarded Prestigious Girl Scout Medal of Honor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A local Girl Scout is being recognized for an extraordinary act of bravery after saving her younger brother from drowning\u2014earning one of the\u00a0<strong>highest honors in Girl Scouting, the Medal of Honor<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Less than ten Girl Scouts receive this honor annually across the country<\/strong>, which<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is awarded to girls who have saved or attempted to save a life in an emergency \u2013 often using skills learned through scouting.<\/p>\n<p>Madeline, now a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsep.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Girl Scouts of Eastern PA<\/a>\u00a0(GSEP) second-year Cadette, was formally presented with the award following her heroic actions when she was a Girl Scout Junior. While at a pool, her then 6-year-old brother unexpectedly slipped from the shallow end into deeper water.
