BETHLEHEM \u2013 May 4, 2016<\/em> \u2013 The Bethlehem Food Co-op will hold two new member events and an educational class this month as follows:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Brunch at Apollo Grill<\/strong><\/p>\n Saturday, May 7<\/span><\/p>\n 11 am – 2 pm<\/span><\/p>\n Owners Dyanne and Rod Holt will donate 5 percent of the proceeds from that day\u2019s brunch sales to the co-op. Reservations are strongly encouraged. When making a reservation guests must be certain to say that they are coming for the co-op event in order for the co-op to receive the credit.<\/p>\n The first three new members to join the co-op during the brunch will get a complimentary Extreme Blood Mary.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.bethlehemfood.coop\/brunch_apollo_grill<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Mead and Read<\/strong><\/p>\n Thursday, May 19<\/span><\/p>\n 5:30 – 7:30 pm<\/span><\/p>\n Moravian Book Shop Bethlehem<\/p>\n Moravian Book Shop and the Colony Meadery welcome the Bethlehem Food Co-op members and new members to taste locally produced mead and shop in the world’s oldest continually operated bookstore. Guests are welcome to browse the shop during the event and are invited to try the delicious variety of meads available, as well as coffee, tea, and other light-fare selections that are available for purchase.<\/p>\n The first five people who sign up for co-op membership during the event will receive a free mead flight featuring five mead samples of their choice, and a Moravian Book Shop collectable ornament, specially created by Joy to the World for the shop. There will also have a gift basket raffle full of surprises and goodies.<\/p>\n At 6:30 pm<\/span>, a presentation entitled \u201cMead and Read\u201d will give attendees a look at the history of Moravian Book Shop and the Colony Meadery, and their unique and historic partnership.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.bethlehemfood.coop\/mead_read_at_colony_meadery_moravian_bookshop<\/a><\/p>\n Understanding Food Choice series \u2013 \u201cOrganic Food\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Saturday, May 21<\/span> \u2013 10:30 am<\/span> \u2013 12:30 pm<\/span><\/p>\n Bethlehem Area Public Library, Church St.<\/p>\n Co-op members – $9; non-members – $10<\/p>\n Advance registration and payment required<\/p>\n The fifth course in the co-op\u2019s six-course series will offer participants a chance to discuss and critically examine organic food, as it exists in the field and on the shelves. While we will look at topics regarding issues like Certified vs. Non-certified Organic; Certified Naturally Grown; and the list of substances approved by the Organic Materials Review Institute, the course\u2019s aim will be to shape the majority of the conversation around attendees\u2019 questions.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.bethlehemfood.coop\/understanding_food_choice_20160521<\/a><\/p>\n The Bethlehem Food Co-Op is owned by the community members it serves, and will support local producers and sustainable, humane, and natural food systems. Member-owners make a one-time $300 equity payment and will receive many perks, such as an equal voice in Co-op operations, opportunities for hands-on involvement, discount days, and access to unique educational opportunities. Monthly payment plans are available to accommodate those who would like to divide up the equity payment. The Co-op currently has 325 member-owners.
