Harrisburg, PA\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is encouraging families to save for education with this year\u2019s 529 Day promotion. Families who save with the\u00a0PA 529 College and Career Savings Program<\/a>\u00a0during the month of May could be eligible to win one of six regional awards \u2013 a $5,529 deposit into the associated PA 529 account. The promotion period starts tomorrow, May 1, and ends May 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy to announce this year\u2019s 529 Day promotion, empowering more Pennsylvania families to save for their child\u2019s future education,\u201d Treasurer Garrity said. \u201cEvery year we celebrate 529 Day, May 29, all month long to incentivize families to save now so that they are best prepared to pay the ever-rising cost of education that their child will need to reach their career goals \u2013 no matter what path they take.\u201d<\/p>\n

To be eligible to win an award, families must contribute at least $10 to a new or previously existing\u00a0PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP)<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0PA 529 Investment Plan (IP)<\/a>\u00a0account between May 1 and May 31, 2026, and the account owner must be a Pennsylvania resident. Gift contributions of at least $10 to a PA 529 account between May 1 and May 31, 2026, are also eligible. To contribute to a child\u2019s PA 529 account, visit\u00a0pa529.com\/gift<\/a>. Here you can find details on how to purchase and redeem a PA 529 gift card or make an online Ugift contribution with a code that can be obtained from the PA 529 account owner.<\/p>\n

The PA 529 program has been helping families save and pay for education for more than 30 years. There are two plans to choose from, the PA 529 GSP and the Morningstar Gold-Rated PA 529 IP. The PA 529 GSP lets families save at today\u2019s tuition rates to cover tomorrow\u2019s tuition costs, and PA 529 GSP fees are waived through June 30, 2026. The PA 529 IP has multiple investment options to choose from and returns are tied to financial markets. Treasurer Garrity has cut PA 529 fees numerous times, resulting in over $22 million in savings for Pennsylvania families.<\/p>\n

Both plans offer state and federal\u00a0tax advantages<\/a>, and PA 529 assets don\u2019t impact a student\u2019s eligibility for Pennsylvania state financial aid. PA 529 accounts can be used for a wide variety of qualifying technical, collegiate, apprenticeship and credential expenses like tuition, fees, books, equipment, room and board, and more.<\/p>\n

Children born January 1, 2019, or later, also have a $100 scholarship available from Keystone Scholars to jumpstart their education savings. Families are encouraged to claim their Keystone Scholars accounts at\u00a0pa529.com\/keystone<\/a>\u00a0and open their own companion PA 529 account to continue saving for their child\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
