BETHLEHEM, Pa. (May 23, 2016<\/span><\/span>) <\/strong>\u2013 Progressive Waste Solutions\u2019 IESI Bethlehem Landfill has donated $4,000 to the Lower Saucon Township Police Department for the purchase of two ballistic shields, which are designed to protect police from firearms and other threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to Bethlehem Landfill, who provided the funds to purchase additional ballistic shields, allowing us to equip each of our patrol vehicles with one,\u201d said Sergeant Tom Barndt of the Lower Saucon Township Police Department. \u201cWe have had ballistic shields in many of our patrol vehicles for years and it is better to be prepared and not need them, than to be in a situation in which we wish we had them, and did not. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our equipment and capabilities across all areas of law enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vacuum-formed ProTech Tactical Intruder shields are manufactured with advanced composite, high-performance polyethylene fiber. They feature LED-lighting, an arched viewport for optimal peripheral vision and a curved form designed to add protection against angled shots.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored to support the Lower Saucon Police Department, particularly with a tool that can potentially save lives,\u201d said Allen Schleyer, Bethlehem Landfill District Manager. \u201cOfficers routinely put themselves in harm\u2019s way to keep us safe, and they deserve to be equipped with the very best means to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n
