font-family: Cambria;\">\u201cYou may be a small town, but you have a mighty spirit, people\u201d, <a href=\"http:\/\/cyndilauper.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cyndi Lauper <\/a>exclaimed as she closed her set Saturday night at The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandseventcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sands Event Center <\/a>to a sold out crowd.\u00a0 Also on the bill, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boygeorgeuk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Boy George<\/a>, making his return to the Lehigh Valley, and a comedy act performed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rosie O\u2019Donnell <\/a>between the two musical performances.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Supporting her recent release earlier this month, \u201cDetour\u201d, provides a different style of music than the average concert go-er would expect from Lauper.\u00a0 \u201cDetour\u201d is a tribute album to all the classic country songs Lauper was surrounded by in her childhood.\u00a0 With the versatility of her vocal range, capturing the classic country sound with all the twang, was not a long shot.\u00a0 Lauper easily jumped into full country regatta seamlessly while she added a touch of \u201cLauper-ism\u201d to \u201cFunnel of Love\u201d, and overall, her vocals and style captured was flawless.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">The set moved smoothly between the new and the classic favorites.\u00a0 Lauper touched upon one of her early memories with her Nana, who had two favorite shows on television, \u201cQueen for a Day\u201d, and \u201cThe Arthur Godfrey Show\u201d, the latter, which provided the introduction to Patsy Cline\u2019s, \u201cWalking After Midnight.\u201d\u00a0 She described her inspiration to \u201cCowboy Sweetheart\u201d as a memory to all the western Saturday morning cartoon shows she watched, and included \u201cEnd of The World\u201d from the new release as well.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Going back to the height of the New Wave heyday, Lauper\u2019s creative spirit was a stand out from the start.\u00a0 Multi color hair with side razor cuts, and what may have been considered an eccentric wardrobe then, have mellowed somewhat today.\u00a0 At age 62, Lauper\u2019s non-stop energy continued through her hits performed, \u201cShe Bop\u201d,\u00a0 \u201cDrove All Night\u201d, and \u201cMoney Changes Everything.\u201d\u00a0 During her first encore, she included \u201cTime After Time\u201d and \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun\u201d, while joined by Rosie O\u2019Donnell who banged on the drums near center stage.\u00a0 The crowd wasn\u2019t about to let her go, as she returned to the stage for her second encore, an a cappella\u00a0 version of \u201cTrue Colors.\u201d\u00a0 It was apparent that Cyndi Lauper\u2019s spirit and performance will never age, and for that, we are all truly grateful.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">After a brief intermission, Rosie O\u2019Donnell, longtime friend to both performers, took the stage and gave us a fifteen-minute stand up routine.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Ready to hit the stage next came Boy George, donned in a long dark patterned jacket, and slightly sparkled gold pants sporting a bright yellow fedora hat.\u00a0 The tone was set early on with Culture Club hits, \u201cIt\u2019s a Miracle\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ll Tumble 4 Ya\u201d, which brought out lots of funk and high energy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Boy George was backed with a horn section, full band, and back up singers.\u00a0 As he introduced \u201cChurch of The Poison Mind\u201d, he stated in his best pomp humorous style that we have grown to love and expect, \u201cI think of this song as a blues jam done in high heels, metaphorically speaking.\u201d\u00a0 Regardless, it brought the audience to their feet, as they clapped, danced, and sang along.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Plenty of surprises were in store, as Boy George performed his tribute to David Bowie with \u201cJean Genie\u201d, as he stretched his rich, full, matured vocals.\u00a0 Also included was a cover of Nancy Sinatra\u2019s hit,\u00a0 \u201cThese Boots Were Made For Walking\u201d, which was performed well, but lacked the panache.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For most Culture Club fans would agree that his vocals flow most fluidly in reggae based songs.\u00a0 \u201cReggae music is good, it\u2019s like sunshine\u201d, Boy George stated.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u201cThe song that started my career, I\u2019ve grown into it in a way,\u201d Boy George explained, as he led into \u201cDo You Really Want to Hurt Me\u201d, and took on a mellower toned down vibe and closed his set.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Joining Boy George in encore was Cyndi Lauper and they performed The Culture Club hit, \u201cKarma Chameleon\u201d followed by \u201cBang A Gong\u201d (T. Rex).<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">This unique pairing captures the best of the 80\u2019s.\u00a0 While this special tour is almost ready to close, Cyndi Lauper will continue her Detour Tour well into the fall.\u00a0 Boy George will rejoin Culture Club on tour this
