{"id":16260,"date":"2016-06-06T16:29:07","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T20:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=16260"},"modified":"2016-06-06T16:29:30","modified_gmt":"2016-06-06T20:29:30","slug":"httpwww-thevalleyledger-comp1904-296","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=16260","title":{"rendered":"West Park Civic Association to Host 34th Annual House Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Society Of the Arts Home, LVHN Edward Harvey Memorial College For Nurses On 2016 Tour<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Allentown, Pa<\/em>. \u2013 The Historic West Park Neighborhood hosts its 34<sup>th<\/sup> Annual House Tour on <span data-term=\"goog_793871213\">June 19<\/span> featuring some of the most classic homes in Allentown\u2019s West End, including the recently restored LVHN Edward Harvey Memorial College for Nurses building at 1628 Chew Street, a shining example of sensitive restoration and adaptive reuse.<\/p>\n<p>The tour, which runs from <span data-term=\"goog_793871214\">11 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/span>, features homes with beautifully carved woodwork, stained glass, and unique irreplaceable architectural features and a journey through a pre-restoration project of an Arts and Craft home for its debut on the West Park Historic House Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Live music will be provided at various locations along the tour.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen Anne-style Clauss mansion (1509 Linden), featuring a recently renovated designer kitchen, vintage style powder room, and spa bath with steam shower, is a true architectural gem bordering Allentown\u2019s West Park.\u00a0 Visit the Shingle-style home of Mar Haeussler and John Clarry, selected as the 2016 Society of the Arts Show House. Cross Millionaire\u2019s Row and experience the 1908 French Empire Revival style home, built by John Taylor, owner of the Globe Dry Goods Store.\u00a0 Marvel at the beautiful decorative plaster relief attributed to Herman Merkel, who was a commercial artist and expert in ornamental plaster. This home is an ongoing restoration project by Jaindl Properties. Enjoy a brief talk on Millionaire\u2019s Row by local historian, Frank Whelan to be held at <span data-term=\"goog_793871215\">1 p.m.<\/span> at the John Taylor House.<\/p>\n<p>Continue downtown to learn more about the rich and varied architectural history of Allentown.\u00a0 Vintage trolleys will transport you from Church of the Mediator on 1620 Turner Street to several historic downtown locations.\u00a0 Continue your tour at Trout Hall, built in the Georgian style, Allentown\u2019s oldest surviving home.\u00a0 There you will find docents in period costumes to transport you to the late 18<sup>th<\/sup> Century. Visit a charming mid-19<sup>th<\/sup> Century townhome retaining most of its original features.\u00a0 Enjoy a tour of Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, home to the 112- year-old Lehigh County Historical Society.\u00a0 Restroom facilities and light refreshments will be available at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets can be purchased the day of the tour for $15 at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, 1620 W. Turner Street.\u00a0 Advance tickets are available for $12 and may be purchased online or at the following locations: Albrights Hardware, C. Leslie Smith, Phoebe Floral, Walter\u2019s Pharmacy, Hummus House, BoutiqueToGo, and Re:find.
