TREXLERTOWN, Pa. \u2013 The 2016 Festival of Speed held true to its name. Before the evening program even began, folks were dazzled with fast times as both the men’s and women’s 200m track records were broken during the morning’s time trials.<\/p>\n

It was the Canadian’s day as both records were broken by those who call the land north of the border home. Hugo Barrette set a new men’s flying 200m record with a time of 10.208, besting the previous time of 10.211. Kate O’Brien set the new women’s flying 200m record with a time of 11.239, besting her teammate Monique Sullivan’s time of 11.333, which she set two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

At night, the sprint champs were decided in straight rides for both the men and women. Sullivan bested teammate O’Brien in straight rides in the all-Canadian women’s sprint finals. Jair Tjon En Fa of Suriname won the men’s sprint finals in straight rides against Hugo Barette. Sullivan and En Fa earned valuable UCI points with the triumphs.<\/p>\n

Lauren Ellis of New Zealand won the women’s UCI 10km scratch final with Kate Wilson of the United States finishing in second place.<\/p>\n

Stephen Hall won the men’s 15km scratch race, Racquel Sheath won the women’s SuperSprint Elimination, Angie Gonzolez won the women’s 12 lap preme race, and Luke Mudgway won the men’s 2km final to end the night.<\/p>\n

During the intermissions from the action on the track, VPCC gave away a brand new Weber Grill, courtesy of Ace Bell Hardware in Trexlertown, to the winner of the Wing Fling wing eating contest.<\/p>\n

The World Series of Bicycling returns tomorrow with the UCI Red Robin All-Stars. Keirin will be the main events for both the men and women. Also, the all-stars from the 2016 Spring Red Robin Marty Nothstein Bicycle Racing League will race multiple events under the bright lights.<\/p>\n

Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
